Mitsubishi was one of the early Japanese brands available in the United States, but these days, it is much less popular than cars from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Subaru. The company's sedans and SUVs don't really stand out from the crowd, but Mitsubishi does distinguish itself in one way: its Lancer Evolution, or Evo, is an exciting performance car, prized by people who love power and speed at a reasonable price. The company is increasingly focused on its utility vehicles and its electric i-MiEV, so the Evo's days may be numbered. If you are looking at the i-MiEV, you'll also want to check out the smart fortwo electric drive and the Nissan Leaf. The Mitsubishi Lancer sedan competes against much more popular small cars, such as the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra, while the Mirage goes up against the Chevrolet Spark and Toyota Yaris, among others.
