Last year, SEMA started its own awards, with winners chosen by those who actually exhibit at the show. These vehicles are considered to be the best platforms for modification and to showcase the year's most notable new aftermarket products. For instance, the Chevrolet Camaro won "Hottest Car" in 2010.

This year, the Ford F-Series won "Hottest Truck," while the Jeep Wrangler took the honors in the 4x4-SUV category. "With an avid following of enthusiasts, the Jeep Wrangler has long been the most customized SUV," said Mike Manley, president and CEO of Chrysler and Jeep.

The Specialty Equipment Market Association stated that exhibitors "are investing more into the Ford F-Series, Jeep Wrangler, Chevrolet Camaro and Fiat 500 than any other vehicle."

That gives the game away. Yes, the Camaro took "Hottest Car" for the second year running. "The Camaro continues to inspire creativity and Chevrolet is thrilled to see that expressed in all the wonderfully personalized examples here at the SEMA show," said Chris Perry, VP of global marketing and strategy at Chevrolet.

In a segment of the car world that has been dominated by Japanese imports for as long as anyone can remember, the little Italian Fiat 500 was awarded "Hottest Sport Compact." Olivier Francois, head of marketing at Chrysler said, "We are honored by the SEMA award and excited by the creativity and enthusiasm of our fans, and the specialty equipment manufacturers who continue to make the 500 even more distinctive."

What this all means to us, the car-buying public, is that we can expect to see a lot more accessories being developed for the above vehicles.
