BMW has introduced the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe. BMW describes the new 6 Series variant as a four-door 4+1 configured coupe. Though only slightly longer (4.4 inches) than its two-door brother, BMW is confident the 6 Series Gran Coupe delivers the design and driving dynamics of a sporty coupe coupled with the convenience of carrying four adults in comfort and style.

The 6 Series Gran Coupe will be available in three models. First to hit showrooms early this summer will be the TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder powered 640i Gran Coupe that produces a surprising 315 horsepower and 330 pound feet of torque.

The TwinPower Turbo V-8 powered 650i Gran Coupe and the all-wheel drive 2013 BMW 650i xDrive Gran Coupe are to follow later in the summer. Both of which produce a maximum of 445 horsepower and 480 pound feet of torque and will go 0-62 MPH in 5.4 seconds.

No matter which model customers opt for, BMW is offering only one transmission: an eight-speed "Sport Automatic." Unfortunately EPA fuel economy ratings have not been released for either the 640i Grand Coupe or the 650i Gran Coupe at this time and won't be publicized until closer to the initial sale date.

In front of the long, athletic, and elegant hood BMW has added an optional lighting upgrade: Adaptive LED Headlights. These high-tech headlights not only provide exceptionally bright white light for increased visibility but will also turn with the steering wheel to better illuminate the roadway ahead.

The M Sport package will be available at the time of launch of the 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe. Including unique front and rear fascias, 19-inch light-alloy wheels, Alcantara/leather sport seats, and much more, the M Sport package has been specifically designed to enhance the Gran Coupe appearance and driving dynamics.

The BMW 640i Gran Coupe arrives in BMW dealers in the US early this summer and will be followed by the 650i Gran Coupe and 650i xDrive Gran Coupe in late summer. Retail and option pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

What it means to you: The Mercedes-Benz CLS won't be the only German four-door sport coupe on the market for much longer.
