For 2013, the popular Chevy Traverse is getting a refresh with a new athletic exterior, more refined interior, and new industry-exclusive safety features including a front center airbag.

The Traverse's new bodylines introduce Chevy's new look for its crossover vehicles. The front fascia features a "powerdome" hood, a three-bar upper and two-bar lower grille design, new lamps, chrome accents around the grille and fog lamps, and sculpted front corners similar to the Malibu sedan.

It's inside the 2013 Traverse where customers will notice the biggest difference. Chevy's designers worked tirelessly to make the Traverse interior both wide and spacious but also refined. With seating for eight adults and more cargo capacity than any other vehicle in its segment, the Traverse has the same interior space as minivan but with improved functionality.

Chevrolet has enhanced not only interior design but also interior materials. The Traverse features soft-touch surfaces, contrasting stitching, chrome and silver accents, and blue ambient lighting. A new center stack showcases a 6.5-inch color touch radio with the available Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system.

Under the hood of the 2013 Traverse, Chevy has placed its direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 producing 288 horsepower and 270 pound feet of torque, when fitted with dual exhaust. Mated to the V6 is a six-speed automatic transmission with revised transmission controls to provide quicker and more consistent shifts.

Available in front and all-wheel drive models, the 2013 Traverse's fuel economy ratings have not been released. Chevy expects the new Traverse to deliver among the best-in-class fuel economy ratings of any eight-passenger utility vehicle.

What it means to you: With seating for eight, and a new athletic look, the Chevy Traverse pushes the boundaries of the modern American crossover market.
