What Is It?
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray “Gran Turismo” concept is a real-life version of the Corvette featured in the PlayStation game “Gran Turismo 6.” The concept has the same 460-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 as the production Stingray, along with its 7-speed manual transmission. The exterior of the car is custom-painted and clad in carbon fiber aerodynamic elements. Inside, sport seats with 5-point harnesses and a custom, flat-bottom steering wheel are fitted.
Chevrolet has two more Corvette concepts on its stand, including the East Coast-inspired Stingray Convertible Atlantic concept and the West Coast-inspired Stingray Coupe Pacific concept, which is equipped with the Z51 performance package. Aside from the ‘Vettes, Chevy is showing a concept based on the upcoming SS sports sedan, the latest, racing-only COPO Camaro, three Camaro-based concepts, the special-edition Camaro Spring and the new 2014 Camaro Z/28, which Chevy calls “the most track-capable Camaro in the car’s history.”
Will They Ever Sell It?
Although the Corvette Stingray “Gran Turismo” concept is not available from Chevrolet, the latest 2014 Corvette Stingray on which it’s based certainly is. And several of the other vehicles on Chevy’s SEMA stand are already available or will be soon. These include the SS, the Camaro Z/28 and the Camaro Spring Special Edition.
Why It’s Important
Expectations for the all-new, seventh-generation 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray were high, and Chevy delivered with an improved model capable of keeping up with the world’s top sports cars. But owners are always looking to improve their vehicles to make them quicker, more comfortable or more distinctive. The Stingray “Gran Turismo” concept is modified for quick lap times on a track. That’s a goal that many real-life Corvette owners pursue, just as “Gran Turismo 6” players chase quick laps in the game’s virtual world.
