2014 Honda Civic Coupe: SEMA Show

What Is It?

The 2014 Honda Civic Coupe is a sporty, 2-door version of the popular Honda Civic compact car. Honda offers several trim levels, but there are two major versions: a standard model for shoppers interested in sleek, coupelike styling (LX and EX trims) and a sporty Si version with more than 200 horsepower for drivers interested in adding the performance to match.

While the 4-door Civic sedan was thoroughly refreshed for 2013, the Civic Coupe didn't see as many revisions. That changes for the 2014 model year, as Honda has face-lifted the Civic Coupe to offer a more aggressive look that includes a larger rear bumper, smoked taillights, a more aggressive front end and other stylistic revisions. Honda also says it's tweaked the engine in the Civic Si to produce 205 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque -- an increase of 4 hp and 4 lb-ft over last year.

How Much?

Think $19,000 with shipping for a Civic LX Coupe or $23,500 with destination for a sporty Si.

When Can You Get It?

Honda hasn't said for sure, but we expect the latest Civic Coupe to reach dealers shortly.

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The 2014 Honda Civic Coupe offers a lot of things most buyers really want. Think legendary reliability combined with sporty styling and, on the Si model, a go-fast powertrain. With the latest model, styling becomes even more cutting-edge -- and the Civic finally has the aggressive look to match some exciting rivals.

Other Cars to Consider

Hyundai Elantra Coupe-- With its emphasis on features and fuel economy, the Elantra Coupe rivals Civic EX and LX models rather than the sporty EX. Pricing is on par with the Civic, as is interior room.

Kia Forte Koup -- The Forte Koup boasts handsome styling and a lot of equipment. And while the sporty SX model can't touch the Si for performance, its 173 hp isn't too shabby. Neither is its price tag of $19,800 with shipping.

Scion tC -- The 179-hp Scion tC sits between base-level Civic models and the sporty Si in Honda's lineup. It's a boldly styled coupe with a slick 6-speed manual (or available automatic) and a long list of personalization options.

Used Subaru BRZ -- If you don't mind buying used, consider a BRZ. Power is similar to the Civic Si, but the BRZ's rear-wheel-drive setup makes all the difference in the corners. It's more expensive new, but early models are starting to reach Civic Si pricing.
