2015 Chevrolet Silverado Custom: Chicago Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Custom isn't an all-new model, and it doesn't boast a series of new tech features or any updated powertrains. Instead, the Silverado Custom, which is based on the Silverado's mid-level LS Double Cab trim, adds cosmetic changes designed to give the truck a more attractive look than what's provided by the standard model.

Probably the truck's most obvious update is its 20-inch alloy wheel, a big upgrade from the regular LS's 17-in steel wheels. But cosmetic changes don't stop there, because the truck also offers chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome mirror caps and chrome door handles. Each item is designed to give the truck a look that matches higher-end trim levels without buyers having to pay higher-end prices.

Beyond its cosmetic differences from a standard Silverado LS, the new Silverado Custom doesn't offer any other major upgrades. Standard features remain the same, while available powertrains include the truck's base-level 4.3-liter V6 or its optional 5.3-liter V8.

How Much?

Although Chevy hasn't announced pricing for V6 models, the V8-powered Custom will start from $33,820 with shipping. Expect to pay a little less for a V6.

When Can You Get It?

Dealers can place orders now, and deliveries are expected later this month or early in March.

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Custom brings a little cosmetic flair to the otherwise basic Silverado LS. While it doesn't offer new technology or updated engines, the Silverado Custom boasts a handsome look that gives the truck a more attractive appearance without the big spending required to get an LT, LTZ or High Country model. While some drivers still view pickups as utilitarian workhorses, those interested in a stylish cruiser might want to check out the Silverado Custom.

Other Cars to Consider

2015 Ford F-150 -- The all-new Ford F-150 presents an excellent challenge to the Silverado, boasting fuel-saving aluminum construction and a wide range of new tech features and gadgets.

2015 GMC Sierra -- If you aren't getting the price you want on a new Silverado, check out the GMC Sierra, which is its mechanical twin. Similar in every way except the badge, the Sierra brings you another full-size pickup option from General Motors.

Used GMC Sierra Denali -- If pickup styling is important to you, you might want to consider the GMC Sierra Denali. A luxurious full-size truck, it offers a stylish interior and exterior, along with lots of features and gadgets. Prices are high, however, so you may have to shop used.

Used Chevrolet Silverado HD -- If you need more capabilities than the Silverado Custom can provide, consider a workhorse Heavy Duty (HD) model. The only drawback is that its pricing is higher than a light-duty pickup, so you may want to consider a used model.
