2015 Kia Sedona: New York Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2015 Kia Sedona is an all-new minivan set to replace the current Sedona, which went on sale back in 2006. While today's Sedona is outdated compared to rivals, the all-new model shares virtually nothing with its predecessor. It boasts a new engine, new styling and a long list of new equipment and technology.

On the outside, the new Sedona is instantly distinguishable from the old one. There are still a few unique Kia elements (the tiger-nose grille comes to mind), but the van mainly boasts an entirely new look with totally revised lines. Major updates also come to the Sedona's interior, as the 2015 model swaps out last year's aging, plastic-filled cabin for a more upscale, modern look.

The Sedona also boasts a long list of new features. For one, the van now offers the brand's UVO infotainment system, which will include the Kia App store, a feature that will likely allow drivers to choose between some of their favorite apps. There's also an available 360-degree camera, a chilled glove box and even traditional household-style electrical outlets.

The 2015 Sedona will also see major changes under its hood. The new minivan will boast a 276-horsepower 3.3-liter V6, which replaces last year's 269-hp 3.5-liter powerplant. While that may not sound like a major change, we expect that the new engine will offer improved technology for better gas mileage. The Sedona's sole transmission remains a 6-speed automatic.

How Much?

While Kia hasn't announced pricing, we wouldn't expect a huge increase over today's base price of around $27,000 with shipping.

When Can You Get It?

Late summer or early fall 2014

Add It to Your Shopping List Because…

If you're interested in a minivan, you've probably noticed that there aren't many different models to choose from. The 2015 Kia Sedona looks like a winner on paper, and that's good news for shoppers, since it offers more competition in the minivan world. While Kia hasn't been a major player in the minivan segment over the past few years, the brand has done an excellent job offering competitive products in other segments, and we see no reason why the new Sedona would be any different.

Other Cars to Consider

Honda Odyssey -- The popular Honda Odyssey is still one of the most popular vans on the market, largely because of its excellent combination of equipment, practicality and reliability. We happen to think it's pretty stylish, too.

Nissan Quest -- The Quest offers many excellent features and a powerful engine, but it never caught on like the Odyssey and Sienna. Blame the van's unusual styling, which is aimed at minivan shoppers who want something different from the norm.

Toyota Sienna -- Aside from the Odyssey, the popular Toyota Sienna is among the top-selling minivans because of its rock-solid reliability, excellent pricing and family-focused equipment.
