2015 Lexus RC F: Detroit Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2015 Lexus RC F is the high-performance version of Lexus's new, rear-wheel-drive RC Coupe, which was revealed last year at the Tokyo Motor Show. While standard RC models (the RC 300h and the RC 350) feature V6 engines, the sporty RC F will offer a 5.0-liter V8 with around 450 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

On the outside, the RC F packs exactly the stylistic punch that you'd expect from a car on Lexus' high-performance F trim line. Think muscular quad exhausts, a huge version of Lexus' front-mounted "Spindle" grille, a large hood bulge and massive front fenders, just like the IS F sport sedan. Other exterior features include 19-inch alloy wheels and an active rear wing that deploys at high speeds.

Inside, the RC F combines luxury with performance thanks to a leather-trimmed interior with heavily bolstered sport seats and a thick steering wheel. The cabin also includes a 7-in infotainment screen and a touchpad remote system that allows drivers to swipe a hand over the car's interface to change climate controls and other functions. There's also an 8-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

How Much?

Lexus hasn't announced pricing for the RC F. It's hard to guess exactly where the high-performance coupe's MSRP will fall, but we'd expect to see it top the BMW M4, which will start around $65,000.

When Can You Get It?

Lexus is getting serious about performance, and the 2015 Lexus RC F only further proves it. The brand created an excellent sports sedan in 2008 with the debut of the IS F, and it reached new performance heights when the LFA supercar went on sale for the 2012 model year. With more than 450 hp, sleek lines and a luxurious interior, the RC F looks to be another strong contender in a high-performance segment typically known for its dominance by European brands.

Other Cars to Consider

Audi RS 5 -- The limited-production RS5 combines the graceful styling of Audi's A5 coupe with Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive, a dual-clutch automatic and a 450-hp 4.2-liter V8.

BMW M4 -- The high-performance version of BMW's latest coupe packs a strong punch thanks to a 425-hp engine, muscular styling and, of course, typical BMW panache.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG -- Offered as a sedan or coupe, the C63 offers Mercedes-Benz luxury and a 451-hp 6.2-liter V8, competing directly with the RC F.

Used Porsche 911 -- With a base price edging close to $90,000, the Porsche 911 is more expensive than the RC F to buy new. But the high-performance coupe can be had for a fraction of that cost used, and it retains its performance and iconic good looks.
