What Is It?
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe 4Matic takes everything that’s great about the upcoming S-Class Coupe and the high-performance elements of the company’s AMG division and puts it all together in a package that’s as breathtaking to drive as it is to write out a check for. Power and luxury hovers just beneath the fingers and toes.
Nothing official yet, but expect a starting price of at least $155,000. Swarovski crystals in the headlights are extra.
When Can You Get It?
Add It to Your Shopping List Because…
When 557 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque from a hand-built engine meet a paddle-shifting 7-speed automatic transmission connected to an AMG-tuned all-wheel-drive system — along with an adaptive air suspension — then the result is a rare driving experience that blends adrenaline with indulgence.
Throw in all the toys imaginable (a thin-film-transistor instrument cluster, a head-up display, ionized cabin air, pedestrian detection and ceramic brake discs are just some of the goodies available), plus seating of sumptuous leather, and there’s nothing else a pampered enthusiast could desire.
Other Cars to Consider
2014 Aston Martin DB9 Coupe — Not as much power (510 hp) and probably more expensive, but this gentleman’s express is still highly covetable.
2014 Bentley Continental GT — The range-topping Speed model enjoys 616 hp. Assuming that you have no qualms about paying $155,000 for a car, an extra $60,000 or so would be no problem.
2015 BMW M6 Coupe — Rear-drive only, which is not a big deal with such efficient traction-control features. The M6 is a glorious way to hustle from the mansion to the yacht club.
2014 Maserati GranTurismo Sport Coupe — Down on power by over 100 hp, the blare from a Ferrari-sourced V8 should still tingle a few spines and help retain an exotic ambience.
2014 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe — Although a 911 is usually seen as something more hardcore and specialist, the current generation offers quite high comfort levels. Imagine the fun to be had test-driving this, along with the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe 4Matic.
Used Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG — This is the car being replaced by the S63, based on the previous generation of the S-Class luxury sedan. Thankfully, its designers gave it a look that holds up today and should do so for years to come. The complement of muscle and splendor is still thrilling. In the meantime, some other buyer has taken the initial depreciation hit.
