2015 RAM Power Wagon: New York Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2014 RAM Power Wagon could be viewed as the ultimate high-performance pickup. It combines the workhorse abilities of the heavy-duty RAM 2500 with a huge engine lifted from Chrysler's own SRT muscle cars.

On the outside, the RAM Power Wagon is especially bold and conspicuous. Not only is the brand's show vehicle painted bright red, it also boasts "POWER WAGON" lettering down each side, which shares space with gray and black smoke decals placed along the bed. A huge "POWER WAGON" decal also adorns the tailgate.

The Power Wagon is just as bold under the hood. Gone is the pickup's 5.7-liter V8, replaced instead by a 6.4-liter V8 borrowed from high-performance muscle cars such as the Dodge Charger SRT8. In the Power Wagon, it produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, which we suspect would deliver some serious performance.

Beyond the bold styling and big performance, the 2014 RAM Power Wagon also offers impressive off-road capabilities. Beefed-up suspension and huge 33-inch off-road tires give the truck 14.5 inches of ground clearance, a figure that lets the Power Wagon enter 30 inches of standing water. The truck can also tow a whopping 11,000 pounds, and a 34-degree approach angle means that it can conquer many serious off-road challenges.

How Much?

The Power Wagon will start around $46,000, while top-end Laramie models will be more than $56,000.

When Can You Get It?

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

If you want the ultimate pickup, RAM's full-size Power Wagon is just about as close as you'll get. Featuring a sports-car engine, pickup-truck practicality and true off-road capabilities, the Power Wagon can do it all, and that makes it the perfect truck for shoppers who don't want to be limited by their vehicle.

Other Cars to Consider

GMC Sierra Denali -- Offered on light- and heavy-duty models, the GMC Sierra's upscale Denali trim level combines high-end luxury equipment with pickup-truck practicality. Unfortunately, it can't conquer the same sort of off-road terrain as the Power Wagon.

Ford F-150 SVT Raptor -- The impressive F-150 Raptor can't tow as much as the Power Wagon, but it offers similar off-road capability, along with arguably bolder styling both inside and out.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited -- If off-road capability is highly important to you, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is among the best choices on the market. It boasts some of the best capabilities of any modern vehicle while retaining a unique look and excellent resale value.
