What Is It?
The underappreciated Hyundai Elantra GT has one big change for 2016, and it’ll stare you right in the face. Apparently inspired by Audi’s A8 super-sedan, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT has possibly the largest grille ever installed on a compact car. And we think it looks pretty cool. The Elantra GT also gets new 17-inch alloy wheels, a retuned steering system and such available features as ventilated front seats (via the Technology package) and next-generation navigation with HD radio and Apple’s Siri Eyes Free technology. Hyundai additionally offers its latest Blue Link telematics suite with remote start (including climate-control settings) and Google destination search.
Otherwise, the Elantra GT is the same hatchback we’ve come to know over the past few years, and that’s a good thing. We’re hoping that the new grille will get this car noticed by more shoppers, because it has a lot to offer. Fuel economy is still something of a sore spot, topping out at a mediocre 33 miles per gallon on the highway with the mandatory 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, but otherwise the Elantra GT is versatile, well-equipped and surprisingly fun to drive. That engine also gives you considerably more horsepower than the Elantra sedan’s 1.8-liter motor, meaning that the Elantra GT actually pulls away from its better-known sibling at full throttle. Don’t be afraid to give this Hyundai a go if you’re looking for an accomplished compact hatchback at a reasonable price.

Add It to Your Shopping List Because…
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT adds a welcome dose of European flair to the compact hatchback segment. You might think that the Elantra GT is based on the Elantra sedan, but it’s actually a rebadged Hyundai i30 from across the pond, and you can feel that taut Euro character on the road.
