2017 Aston Martin DB11: Geneva Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2017 Aston Martin DB11 is the most powerful car in the history of the DB line. The company also describes this coupe as the “most efficient and most dynamically gifted DB model … the most significant new Aston Martin since the introduction of the DB9 in 2003.”

The DB11 has 2+2 seating and certainly puts the “grand” into the idea of a grand tourer. It has the finest leather upholstery, an optional 1,000-watt Bang & Olufsen audio system (which could probably get the DB11 moving on sound waves alone) and two thin-film-transistor displays: a 12-inch version for the instruments and an 8-in version for the infotainment system, which includes Apple CarPlay.

An aluminum frame that’s lighter, stronger and more space-efficient than those of previous DB cars plays host to a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. By sending 600 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque to just the rear set of the handsome 20-in alloy wheels — through an 8-speed automatic transmission, a carbon-fiber propeller shaft and a limited-slip rear differential — the DB11 achieves a near-ideal weight balance. It can sprint from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in a fleeting 3.9 seconds, and the model hits a top speed of 200 mph.

In case you were wondering what happened to the DB10: It was a special model that was made especially for the most recent James Bond movie “Spectre.” Aston Martin only built 10 examples of this model.

Other Cars to Consider

2016 BMW M6 — This M6 is a bit on the comfortable side, despite the fact that it’s an M model. It’s endowed with 600 hp, though.

2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S — This model only has two seats and 503 hp, but it’s great to look at and great to drive.

2016 Porsche 911 Turbo S — A 911 should never be overlooked, especially when it has 560 hp.

Used Ferrari FF — The FF is a comparatively rare thing: a 4-seater Ferrari. It has distinctive styling and 651 hp to play with.
