2017 Lincoln MKZ: LA Auto Show

What Is It?

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ midsize executive sedan has received a midcycle refresh and celebrated that fact by making its debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. The nose is markedly different from before. And if anyone thinks it resembles a Jaguar, then that's some irony considering that Ford (Lincoln's parent company) used to own Jaguar.

There are truly exciting developments in the engine bay, though. A new turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 makes a remarkable 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, which represents a significant hike in power over the outgoing model. The basic Premiere trim, however, gets a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder. Lincoln will still make a hybrid version, and that uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter combustion engine. Remember, the MKZ is based on the Ford Fusion, which is actually a great riding car.

How Much?

To be announced. The current range starts at $35,190 (plus destination).

When Can You Get It?

You really don't want to be like everyone else. If it's anything like the current model, the 2017 Lincoln MKZ will be an uncommon sight. Let's be honest: Lincoln is Ford's problem child, but this effort shows a continuing determination to keep the marque alive and relevant.

Other Cars to Consider

2016 Acura TLX -- The TLX is quietly efficient.

2016 Cadillac CTS -- The CTS represents homegrown competition to Lincoln, as it's an excellent car.

2016 Lexus ES 350 -- The ES is a safe choice with superb comfort.

Used Lexus GS -- A used GS is more of a driver's choice -- still with a hybrid option.
