The Tokyo Auto Show features a wide variety of new or forthcoming cars and trucks. Every other year, the focus is on passenger cars and technology. There is a Tokyo Show every year, but it alternates between passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Still, there’s always a good mix of cars, trucks, motorcycles and commercial vehicles, which is what makes the show so interesting.
Here are the standouts from this year’s Tokyo Auto Show:
Nissan IMx Concept: This promises to be the car that will eventually make the self-driving car a reality.
Subaru Viziv Performance Concept: It looks like a future Outback sedan. More than likely it’s a glimpse at the next-generation WRX.
Honda Sports EV Concept: Certainly the coolest-looking EV. It’s just a concept, but Honda says a version will be on sale in Europe by 2019.
Nissan Leaf Nismo Concept: Essentially a sporty version of the Leaf EV. Body work reduces drag and a sport-tuned suspension makes it more fun to drive.
Mazda Kai Concept: Basically, the new Mazda3 will look a lot like this car.
Mazda Vision Coupe: Could be hinting at a new large Mazda sedan, something the company hasn’t had since the 929.
Suzuki Xbee Concept: The name means cross-B, indicating it’s a crossover in the B-segment European classification. Not coming to the U.S. but looks like a baby Toyota FJ Cruiser, and it’s super cute.
