2018 Acura TLX: New York Auto Show

 What Is It?

The 2018 Acura TLX has been updated with revised styling that evokes the Acura Precision Concept unveiled last year. This means a new face featuring revised headlights and the brand's new grille design. There are slight changes elsewhere as well, but the head-on view is where you're most likely to tell the difference.

The 2018 TLX also debuts a new A-Spec version that boasts unique styling flourishes, 19-in wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, retuned sport-tuned steering, more pronounced seat bolsters and exclusive interior trim choices. It will come standard with the TLX's V6 engine but will have the option of front-wheel drive or Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system.

Feature content updates include a revised version of the Acura's dual-screen tech interface. Response times have apparently improved, and there's a new menu structure that's supposedly more intuitive. Both would be excellent improvements given that Acura's current tech interface leaves much to be desired. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now included, as is the AcuraWatch suite of collision-avoidance technologies. The cabin design effectively remains the same.

 How Much?

To be announced. Expect a slight increase over the 2017's base price of around $32,000, while the A-Spec should start around $40,000.

 When Can You Get It?

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The 2018 Acura TLX will continue to be a value-rich luxury sedan, boasting lots of equipment for the money and Acura's strong reliability reputation. Its new styling and A-Spec trim level add a bit of spice to what was previously a rather bland recipe.

 Other Cars to Consider

2017 Lexus ES 350 -- The comfort-tuned ES provides a well-made cabin, ample space and an impressive amount of refinement.

2018 Buick Regal -- The all-new Regal boasts a distinctive "Sportback" body style that provides a coupelike roofline and a handy hatchback trunk opening. Its attractive and well-made cabin should impress.

2017 Audi A4 -- Audi's A4 sedan boasts a beautiful cabin and excellent technology features. Its value-for-the-money quotient may not be as strong as the TLX's, but it nevertheless outdoes its German rivals.

Used Lexus GS 350 -- The refined and reliable Lexus GS provides the sort of sensible luxury that customers of the TLX would probably appreciate, albeit it in an elevated form. Higher new prices mean you should probably consider a used model.
