2018 FIAT 500 Goes Turbo: Chicago Auto Show

At this year's Chicago Auto Show, FIAT presented the 1.4-liter turbo engine that will now propel every 2018 FIAT 500. Featuring a single turbocharger, twin intercoolers and sport-tuned exhaust, the new turbo boosts horsepower by 33 percent over last year's regularly aspirated 1.4L engine. For the Pop and Lounge grades, that means 135 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. For the sporty Abarth, output will be 160 hp and 183 lb-ft of torque.

When coupled with the 5-speed manual transmission, all three 2018 FIAT 500 models deliver a government-estimated 28 miles per gallon in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. With the optional 6-speed automatic tranny, those number drop to 24 mpg city/32 mpg hwy.

Dealers are already taking orders for 2018 models with the turbocharged 500s available in the second quarter of this year. Bonus: Customers buying or leasing a new 500 Abarth will receive a free 1-day driving session at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving.

Other models in the lineup like the 500e, 500L, 500X and 124 Spider will continue to use the same powertrains as they did in 2017.
