What Is It?
Acura is touting the 2019 Acura RDX as a signal to the beginning of a new era. In terms of styling, performance, luxury and technology, the totally redesigned third-gen RDX, according to Acura vice president Jon Ikeda, heralds coming changes across the brand. Acura unveiled what it’s calling the RDX Prototype in Detroit today.
Power comes from an all-new 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates 40 percent more low-end torque than the current version’s engine, which translates into a nearly flat torque curve. Power goes to the wheels by way of a segment-first 10-speed automatic transmission. Inspired by the NSX, the optional Adaptive Damper System offers four drive modes: Sport, Sport+, Comfort and Snow.
All-wheel drive versions will sport the next-generation Acura SH-AWD system featuring an all-new differential with a 150 percent increase in maximum torque capacity than the current RDX. Stretching the wheelbase by 2.5 inches provides more passenger space in a cabin with a floating center console and new power sport seats.
The 2019 Acura RDX pioneers the brand’s all-new True Touchpad Interface with a dual-zone 10.2-in full-HD display. A touch pad corresponds exactly to the display layout. Standard on all RDX models is the AcuraWatch suite of driver-assist and safety technologies. Available will be a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and a panoramic sunroof.
Acura has yet to announce pricing, but the current RDX has an entry-level price of $36,995.

Good looks, a terrific AWD system, a comfortable cabin and cutting-edge technology make this a popular choice among smaller premium crossovers. Acura calls the 2019 Acura RDX the quickest and best-handling RDX ever. On paper, it sure looks that way.
