2019 Mazda CX-3: New York Auto Show

What Is It?

If you like the current CX-3, chances are you'll love the 2019 Mazda CX-3. Even calling it a freshening might be overstating it. In fact, most of the press release accompanying the reveal of the 2019 version concentrates as much on the process and thinking in coming up with the original Mazda CX-3 than the process involved in buffing up the 2019. But then, the current version is pretty darn good in our opinion; so why sweat it?

Styling tweaks were mostly limited to the new grille, plus some new chrome accents. A few piano-black accents were added to the side pillars and around the fog lights for good measure. Also bolstering the appearance from the side are new 18-inch wheels filling out the wheel openings. At the rear, new LED taillights wrap up the changes.

Inside, the introduction of an electric parking brake freed up some space around the center console allowing for a bit of rearranging and adding storage space. Wider front seats are now covered with a material for increasing comfort. Upper trims will have the option of leather seating. A center armrest with cupholders appears in the backseat. Thicker door panels and glass render the refreshed CX-3 quieter.

Engineers tinkered with the SKYACTIV 2-liter engine, increasing torque across the entire rpm range. Performance numbers are up slightly for the 2019 to 148 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque from 146 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque. Mazda also promises improved fuel efficiency.

How Much?

No new pricing announced, but it shouldn't be much more than the current CX-3 that starts out at $20,110.

When Can I Get It?

Coming to showrooms this spring.

Add It to Your Shopping List Because ...

A kick to drive, the current CX-3 is easy on the eyes and on fuel. Roomy for its class, it's comfortable, too. The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is that an a little more.
