Bentley Bentayga Hybrid: Geneva Auto Show

author photo by Russ Heaps March 2018

What Is It?

Geneva was Bentley's choice for unveiling the all-new plug-in Bentley Bentayga Hybrid. The carmaker's first hybrid, the all-wheel-drive Bentayga uses a 3.0-liter V6 paired with an electric motor to turn the wheels. Bentley has yet to announce combined horsepower for the V6 and motor.

You've got to start somewhere, and the predicted 31 miles of pure-electric range is where Bentley begins its foray into electric power. Charging the battery will require 2.5 hours with a level 2 charger, or 7.5 hours powering up with a household outlet.

Drivers will be able to manage energy usage through three "E Modes:" EV Drive, Hybrid Mode and Hold Mode. Additionally, the E Modes can be controlled through the navigation system to maximize electric power based on driving conditions and terrain. In many respects, the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid is much like the regular Bentayga, but it does receive a few unique touches that mostly revolve around the hybrid system, like a tachometer that shows the amount of battery charge remaining while in EV mode, but reverts back to a tach when the V6 does the heavy lifting.

How Much?

Pricing has yet to be announced, but probably more than the $232,000 Bentayga diesel.

When Can I Get It?

Bentley will begin taking orders in the fall of 2018.
