Buick Avenir Concept: Detroit Auto Show

What Is It?

The Buick Avenir Concept is a beautiful, head-turning vehicle that previews a potential future model. In this case, it’s a full-size luxury sedan, which would slot above the Lacrosse in Buick’s fast-growing lineup.

On the outside, the Avenir certainly has a show-stopping presence thanks to a huge, flat hood, giant chrome wheels, and imposing dimensions that seem to rival a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7 Series. There’s a huge grille in front, bold character lines down the sides, and a short rear end that makes the Avenir look almost like a hatchback in back.

Inside, the Buick Avenir Concept is just as luxurious and futuristic thanks to two huge screens, one in the gauge cluster and one in the center control stack, along with sweeping lines and stylish, modern materials. Rear passengers are treated to plush bucket seats, while a full-length center console runs from the front to the rear. Rear passengers can also enjoy individual screens built into the front seatbacks.

Will They Ever Sell It?

Probably not in this form, but the Avenir reveals that Buick might be thinking about building a full-size luxury sedan some time in the future.

Why It’s Important

Right now, the words “luxury sedan” seem to be reserved for the high-end Cadillac brand when it comes to the General Motors lineup, but the Buick Avenir Concept proves that things may not stay that way forever. The full-size sedan offers a luxurious, futuristic interior, a bold, eye-catching exterior, and proportions that rival the largest and most expensive luxury sedans. We can also assume that a production model would be rear– or all-wheel drive, with standard V8 power. Simply put, the Avenir Concept is saying very loudly that the Buick brand is ready for a bigger piece of the luxury-car pie.
