Hyundai's Remix Lab Velosters - SEMA Auto Show

by Ross Darby November 2011

More than any show, SEMA is the chance for manufacturers to prove that they are in touch with their enthusiasts. This year, Hyundai has done so by donating three Velosters to Rides and Antenna magazines, who have sculpted each one to focus on the types of activities typically synonymous with car culture. Branded under the Re:Mix Lab, these cars will be making their rounds at live events, and on the Veloster YouTube channel.

We'll start off by going to the one that probably caught your eye first, the Re:Mix Gaming. This bright green Veloster somehow crammed a 40-inch Samsung 3D TV in the hatch, with a custom-painted XBox 360 mounted on a motorized platform underneath. Of course, all four controllers have also been painted to match, and there's even a station to charge those controllers built in. A Kinect motion controller has also been thrown in the mix, so you can finally mask your parking lot dancing as having a purpose. JL Audio took care of the audio for the system, and for some flair on the outside, a Ferrari 458-inspired triple-exit exhaust has been fitted.

The black car is devoted to music, and has the full compliment of equipment to make some tunes, no matter what type of music you play. If you're more into the DJ scene, there's two iPads loaded with DJ software to spin the ones and twos. If a computer is needed to make some electronic jams, a custom-colored 15-inch MacBook Pro is custom-mounted. If you prefer shredding an axe, of course there's a Fender FSR Stratocaster guitar on hand, as well as an iRig setup for plugging that guitar into one of the iPads.

Finally, there's the pristine white Veloster. White, thanks to a certain iconic company, has lately been synonymous with technology, and this car is no different. The Re:Mix Tech features a Mac Mini plugged into yet another Samsung 40-inch 3D TV, with eight pairs of 3D glasses. Feeding the 3D content is a Samsung Blu-Ray player, and a Panasonic 3D camcorder is included to make some content of your own.

Everything else on the trio is pretty much the same, a mild body kit (if any), and a nice set of aftermarket wheels. Inside there's a healthy dose of suede, and LED lighting throughout. But that all doesn't matter, it's the junk in the trunk that counts.
