Nissan INVITATION Concept Vehicle: Geneva Auto Show

  • Nissan unveils the INVITATION concept vehicle at this year's Geneva Auto Show
  • Stands as preview to Nissan's next generation compact car
  • INVITATION includes advanced safety features as well as strong fuel economy and low emissions

With the INVITATION, Nissan demonstrates the design inspiration for their forthcoming, all-new compact car, which is scheduled for launch in 2013.

The INVITATION looks a bit like a next-generation Honda Fit. The energetic and sporting body design is dominated by what Nissan is calling the "Squash Line," that runs the length of the vehicle. Nissan wanted the INVITATION to be-not surprisingly inviting to compact hatchback customers with a sleek exterior and amply sized and comfortable interior.

The INVITATION is packed with never before seen technology in the compact car segment including Nissan's exclusive Around View Monitor (AVM) and Nissan Safety Shield Technologies, which interact with the driving environment keeping the driver aware of what's happening around the car.

Beneath the eye-catching body structure is what Nissan is hoping will be class-leading levels of fuel efficiency and emissions. Though Nissan hasn't publicized any drivetrain specifics at this time, Nissan boasts the INVITATION is both wallet-friendly and fun to drive.

Although rather ambiguous at this time, Nissan demonstrates with the INVITATION its dedication to fuel efficiency, dynamic design, and technology, and gives customers a glimpse into the future of compact cars.

What it means to you: The Nissan INVITATION makes clear era of boring, tinny, underpowered compact cars is truly over.
