Pricing Announced for Mitsubishi i - New York Auto Show

April 28, 2011

In New York, Mitsubishi announced that the 100% electric Mitsubishi i is available for pre-order beginning today, April 22, 2011. Appropriately, that’s Earth Day. The bigger news is that the starting MSRP after federal tax credit of $7,500 is $20,490.

“We believe that the Mitsubishi i will be the most likeable car on the planet,” noted Yoichi Yokozawa, newly appointed President and CEO for Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA). Just could be. The Mitsubishi i is currently the most affordable, 100% electric-powered, mass-market production vehicle available in North America.

Just to zap your memory, the 4-person 100% electric vehicle has zero tailpipe emissions, is rear-wheel drive with over 140 ft-lb of torque and a top speed of 80 mph. It goes 85 miles on a charge, has an eight year or 100,000 mile battery warranty, qualifies for federal and state tax credits, and comes in an ES or SE model.

The price of $27,990 applies to the ES level. Power up a few notches to the SE Premium trim level and for $2,790 extra you get a navigation system with rear-view camera, a hands free link system with steering wheel mounted controls and a DC quick-charging port. The quick-charging port allows the i battery pack to be recharged at a Level 3 charger to 80% full capacity in 30 minutes. Level 3 chargers, by the way, are installed at a number of growing locations around North America.

Ready to be an i owner? The 4-step on-line process, according to Mitsubishi, will be seamless. To make it even more efficient, the refundable deposit of $299 plus $99.99 for the required home electrical inspection is payable via PayPal.

Plus, for the first 2,000 people who place a pre-order, Mitsubishi will waive the home electrical inspection fee of $99.00.
