  • Suzuki debuts factory-installed Garmin entertainment and navigation system for its 2013 model year at this year's New York Auto Show
  • Features include a 6.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, multi-media playback and navigation
  • Garmin system will be available on most 2013 Suzuki models

While other automakers pump millions of dollars worth of research and development into producing their own multi-media, satellite navigation and entertainment systems, Suzuki has decided to go another route.

Teaming up with Garmin - the global leader in satellite navigation systems - Suzuki will offer factory-installed Garmin entertainment and navigation systems on its 2013 SX4, Kizashi and Grand Vitara models as an upgradable extra.

Operated through its bright 6.1-inch touchscreen or by voice command, the Garmin system will include AM/FM/CD radio, USB and an AUX jack, SD card slot, internal flash memory, backup camera support, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, Pandora Radio and Garmin's award-winning satellite navigation.

The new Suzuki 2013 Garmin upgrade stands an industry first. Typically automakers, including BMW, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota, license individual Garmin products such as automotive-grade entertainment, navigation and telematics systems, navigation software, location-based services and integrated portable navigation systems for integration into their own entertainment and navigation systems.

However, this new Suzuki unit - designed and built entirely by Garmin - stands alone as the first of its kind in the field factory-installed entertainment and navigation upgrades.

What it means to you: Instead of struggling to devise its own system, Suzuki has brilliantly turned to Garmin, a global navigation leader, for a pre-packaged entertainment and navigation system, which will be installed at the Suzuki factories.
