Toyota showed off a new Land Cruiser in Frankfurt, but this isn’t the Land Cruiser Americans are used to. Instead, this is a slightly smaller version, called the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, that’s available outside the US.
However, you might know it as the Lexus GX460. We don’t know for sure if this updated Prado will translate directly to the new GX’s look.
What does make sense is that the new Lexus GX460 (we think the name is changing to the GX500) will get this Land Cruiser’s interior, safety and tech updates like Toyota’s Safety Sense system, which adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control and a pre-collision warning system. Most SUVs offer at least some of this technology, and the GX will certainly benefit.
Thankfully, we don’t think the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado’s large grille will translate. Instead, Lexus will likely adapt a version of their signature spindle grille.
Look for an updated Lexus GX in middle to late 2018, probably as a 2019 model year SUV.
