The current RAV4 is old by crossover standards; the last full re-do was in 2012. The 2019 Toyota RAV4 comes along just in time. Just in time for the RAV4 to become the best-selling Toyota -- more than the Camry and the Tacoma. In fact, Toyota kind of pioneered the small crossover SUV with the first RAV4 in the 1990s. Toyota says the 2019 RAV4 is about the same size as the previous model, but it does look larger in person. Toyota's Brian Hancock points out differences like new trim levels and packages, as well as a Limited and XSE version to better align with other Toyota offerings.

From the front, it's clear the RAV4 and the Tacoma share some styling DNA. In its effort to push the 2019 Toyota RAV4 upmarket, some 2-tone paint schemes will be available on select grades. All trim levels will feature an Entune infotainment system with at least a 7-inch tablet-style touchscreen, Wi-Fi capability, Apple CarPlay and access to Amazon's Alexa.

Also, standard across the board will be Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 2.0, including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection (which features pre-collision warning and automatic emergency braking), adaptive cruise control with stop and start, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, automatic high beams and lane tracing that recognizes lane markings and keeps the vehicle within those markings in specific driving situations.
