10 Most Affordable New Hybrid Cars for 2019

In the old days of hybrid vehicles, the extra cost of a hybrid over its non-hybrid counterpart was usually too high to justify the fuel savings. In 2019, however, the prices of mainstream hybrids have come down far enough to make them more economical choices for drivers looking to save some fuel. If you’re interested in a hybrid on a budget, here are the 10 most affordable new hybrid cars available in 2019. All prices listed below include the manufacturers’ destination fees.

Nissan Rogue Hybrid

Nissan Rogue Hybrid – $28,645

The Nissan Rogue might be due for an update, but the Rogue Hybrid is still a strong choice if you’re looking for an affordable compact crossover that’s good on gas. Not only is the Rogue the most affordable hybrid in its class, but it also offers an upscale cabin, available all-wheel drive, and more standard safety features for 2019. Getting up to 33 miles per gallon in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, the Rogue Hybrid is a versatile and efficient crossover. Find a Nissan Rogue Hybrid for sale

Ford Fusion Hybrid

Ford Fusion Hybrid – $28,550

The Ford Fusion is already a great midsize sedan and we think the hybrid variant makes it even better thanks to its impressive fuel economy numbers of 43 mpg city/4 mpg hwy. The car is slightly updated for 2019 introducing newly standard driver-assistance tech including lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams and more. The Fusion Hybrid also offers a nice, roomy interior and good handling, especially for a hybrid. Find a Ford Fusion Hybrid for sale

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

Hyundai Sonata Hybrid – $26,670

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a comfortable and practical sedan that’s priced well and is great on gas. At its best, this hybrid returns 40 mpg city/46 mpg hwy and has a little more power than some of its hybrid rivals. Like the Fusion Hybrid, the Sonata Hybrid is roomy and comfortable on the inside and it offers a smooth ride and user-friendly features. It’s not quite as feature-rich as the Fusion, but it is a bit more affordable. Find a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid for sale

Honda Accord Hybrid

Honda Accord Hybrid – $26,240

The Honda Accord Hybrid is, quite simply, a home run. This affordable hybrid midsize sedan gets terrific gas mileage at 48 mpg city/48 mpg hwy while making more than 200 horsepower. It’s roomy and comfortable on all trims, but can get quite luxurious in the higher trims if you have the budget for them, especially the Touring model. We love that every Accord Hybrid comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance tech. We also like the user-friendly infotainment system, the huge trunk and the handsome look of the Accord Hybrid. Find a Honda Accord Hybrid for sale

Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius – $24,700

The Toyota Prius is a stalwart in affordable hybrids and the current fourth-generation model might have controversial styling, but it excels in just about every category that matters in a compact hybrid hatchback. It gets excellent fuel economy of up to 54 mpg city/50 mpg hwy plus it has lots of cargo space and a ton of standard features. For the first time ever, the 2019 Toyota Prius is available with AWD, which slightly impacts fuel economy, but is a big advantage that few competitors offer. Find a Toyota Prius for sale

Kia Niro

Kia Niro – $24,485

Whether you want to call it a compact hatchback or a subcompact SUV, the Kia Niro is a nice little hybrid with a nice little price. It achieves Prius like fuel economy of up to 52 mpg city/49 mpg hwy, but only in the base trim and it goes down as you work your way up the model range. The cabin is spacious and nicer than what you might expect from a small Kia. Unfortunately, AWD is not available. Find a Kia Niro for sale

Toyota Corolla Hybrid – $23,880

All-new as a 2020 model, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid compact sedan is a nice alternative to a Prius if you don’t want to be seen driving a Prius. It has fantastic fuel economy estimates of 53 mpg city/52 mpg hwy and comes with a generous list of standard features. It’s a little lacking in performance, but if you just need a practical and efficient compact that’s also very affordable, the Corolla Hybrid is a strong choice in hybrid cars. Honda Insight

Honda Insight – $23,850

The Honda Civic is no longer available as a hybrid and in its place is the return of the Insight nameplate, this time on a compact sedan. The Honda Insight is a smaller, more affordable, more efficient alternative to the Accord Hybrid and it’s worth consideration if you don’t need as much space as the Accord. Like the Accord Hybrid, every Insight comes standard with Honda Sensing, which is a great perk. With fuel economy numbers of up to 55 mpg city/49 mpg hwy, the Insight is a tremendous value. Hyundai Ioniq

Hyundai Ioniq – $23,320

The Hyundai Ioniq is a compact hatchback that goes toe-to-toe with the mighty Prius and the Hyundai actually wins in the all-important fuel economy department getting up to 57 mpg city/59 mpg hwy. The Ioniq also features a great UVO infotainment system that’s intuitive and easy to use plus a lot of cargo space. The Ioniq is a good Prius alternative that is more affordable and more efficient. Toyota Prius c

Toyota Prius c – $22,460

The most affordable hybrid vehicle on the market today is the Toyota Prius c, the subcompact version of the Prius. Despite being smaller than the regular Prius, the Prius c actually isn’t as good on gas as its big brother and returns 48 mpg city/43 mpg hwy, which is still excellent. The Prius c also offers a lot of standard safety tech, a roomy cargo area for a subcompact, and of course Toyota reliability. Find a Toyota Prius c for sale
