8 Best Used Family Sedans Under $10,000 for 2019

If you’re in the market for a cheap car, a used midsize sedan may be the way to go. Thanks to their relative size and efficiency, not to mention the sheer volume of used midsize sedans out there, it isn’t hard to find one that fits your personal needs. Here, we’ll list several used family sedans that make a good option for anyone looking to spend around $10,000.

Toyota Camry

2014-2017 Toyota Camry

The Camry has consistently been one of, if not the, top-selling midsize sedan on the market for more than a decade, making it one of the best used family sedans you can buy. Thanks to its good ride quality, spacious interior and available blind spot monitoring system, buyers in search of a cheap midsize sedan will find a lot to love about the 2014-2017 Camry. There are currently close to 300 2014-2017 Toyota Camry models listed on Autotrader for around $10,000. While V6 and hybrid powertrains were available, the vast majority of these Camry models listed for $10,000 are of the 4-cylinder variety, which still offers good fuel economy to the tune of 24 miles per gallon in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Honda Accord

2013-2015 Honda Accord

The 2013-2015 Honda Accord offers great reliability along with an impressive array of standard features, a spacious interior with great attention to detail, a comfortable ride and good handling. As one of the most trusted and dependable vehicles on the market, you can’t go wrong with a used Accord. Both 4- and 6-cylinder engines were offered over the 2013 to 2015 model years. Most came with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), although 4-cylinder 4-door and 6-cylinder 2-door models were available with a 6-speed manual as well. There are currently close to 300 2008-2012 Honda Accords listed on Autotrader for $10,000 or less. Find a Honda Accord for sale

Subaru Legacy

2009-2014 Subaru Legacy

The Legacy offers all the benefits of standard all-wheel drive along with either an efficient 4-cylinder or a potent 6-cylinder engine, although the latter comes only with a 5-speed automatic, which is one fewer gear than what most modern vehicles offer. The 4-cylinder offers a CVT, which offers great fuel economy benefits, and the 4-cylinder Legacy returns a reasonable 24 mpg city/32 mpg hwy/27 mpg combined. The Legacy goes on to offer a spacious rear seat and, starting with the 2013 model year, 2.5i Premium models and up were offered with Subaru’s then-new "EyeSight" suite of active safety features, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning. Currently on Autotrader there are around 150 2009-2014 Subaru Legacy models listed for about $10,000. Find a Subaru Legacy for sale

Ford Fusion

2013-2016 Ford Fusion

The Fusion offers a roomy interior, attractive styling and good driving dynamics, especially when it comes to SE and Titanium models thanks to their stiffer sport suspension. There are tons of 2013-2016 Fusions listed on Autotrader for around $10,000 — dozens of which are even the top-of-the-line Titanium model, an excellent overall value at this price, given that the Titanium comes with a 12-speaker Sony Audio system, keyless ignition, 10-way power adjustable sport seats and 18-in wheels. On top of that, there are several AWD examples listed at this price point as well. Find a Ford Fusion for sale

Kia Optima

2011-2015 Kia Optima

As Kia and Hyundai are owned by the same parent company, the Optima is the sporty counterpart to the Hyundai Sonata. The Optima offers one of the earlier interpretations of Kia’s "tiger nose" front end styling, and the vehicle’s overall design remains attractive even eight years after it first debuted. Powering the Optima on the low end was a 200-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, while buyers wanting more power can look to the potent 2.0-liter turbo four, which churns out 274 hp. There are over 700 2011-2015 Optimas currently listed on Autotrader for around $10,000. Find a Kia Optima for sale

Mazda6

2014-2018 Mazda6

Mazda is known for offering great design and quality, along with a driving experience superior to what you typically get from your average economy car. This is especially true with the redesigned Mazda6 that debuted for the 2014 model year. Mazda only offered one powertrain option for the current Mazda6’s first few years on sale: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder putting out 184 hp and returning an impressive 26 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. Unfortunately, due to its newness, there aren’t as many third-generation Mazda6s to choose from for those on a tight budget, and there are currently just around 100 2014-2018 listed on Autotrader for about $10,000. Nissan Altima

2013-2015 Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima typically plays third-fiddle in the midsize sedan segment behind the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord, but it offers great value, especially on the used market. The fifth-generation Altima was introduced for the 2013 model year and sold through 2018, and right now, buyers can find early examples for around $10,000. As with most of the vehicles on this list, powertrain options were either a humble, efficient 4-cylinder or a more powerful V6. In the case of the Altima, the 4-cylinder puts out 182 hp and returned 31 mpg combined, while the V6 puts out a healthy 270 hp and returns 25 mpg in combined driving. On Autotrader, buyers interested in a 2013 to 2015 Nissan Altima have over 1,000 to choose from, around 50 of which have the V6 engine. Find a Nissan Altima for sale

Volkswagen Passat

2012-2015 Volkswagen Passat

When Volkswagen set out to redesign the Passat for this market, its main goal was to come up with a vehicle tailored directly to U.S.-market tastes, and the vehicle it introduced in 2012 was bigger, more spacious and more American than the outgoing model, which was designed primarily to European standards. 2012-2015 Passat buyers have their choice of either a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine making 170 hp or a 3.6-liter V6, putting out a healthy 280 hp. The drawback of either of these powertrains is that neither is particularly fuel efficient when compared to the competition. A diesel-powered TDI model was offered, but used examples of those are tough to find given that most were taken off the road as part of Volkswagen’s diesel emissions cheating scandal. There are currently over 500 2012-2015 Passats listed on Autotrader for around $10,000. Find a Volkswagen Passat for sale
