9 Good Used AWD Cars Under $10,000 for 2020

Drivers in northern states that see snowy winter weather, or those who just want to be able to drive down a dirt road from time to time, will appreciate the added confidence of all-wheel drive. Generally, AWD vehicles hold their value better than those with only 2-wheel drive, but this doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find one that works with your budget. Below, we’ll list nine of our favorite used AWD cars that are easy to find for around $10,000 or less.

2016 Subaru Impreza

2012-2016 Subaru Impreza

It would be hard to start this list with anything but a Subaru. The compact Impreza offers space, efficiency, safety and, given that it’s a Subaru, standard AWD. It’s also available in a hatchback body style, which itself is offered in lifted, ruggedized Crosstrek trims. While you won’t find many Crosstreks for under $10,000, there are plenty of Impreza sedans and hatchbacks to choose from at this price point. Right now on Autotrader, there are over 300 2012-2016 Imprezas listed for around $10,000 or less. Of these, over 100 are the practical hatchback body style. Each one comes with the added confidence of AWD, which you can’t get with a comparable Civic or Corolla. If you want more to choose from, consider older 2007 to 2011 models as well, most of which sell for under $10,000 these days. Find a Subaru Impreza for sale

2015 Honda Pilot

2009-2015 Honda Pilot

The Honda Pilot is a spacious, dependable 3-row family crossover. It shares a lot in common with the Honda Odyssey minivan, but unlike the Odyssey, which is front-wheel drive only, the Pilot is offered with capable AWD. Additionally, it comes with carlike handling, a comfortable ride and plenty of room for you, your kids and all of your stuff. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 putting out 250 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque and paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. In its second generation, offered from 2009 to 2015, the Pilot offers room for up to eight passengers. Right now on Autotrader, buyers have over 300 2009-2015 Pilots to choose from for about $10,000 or less. Find a Honda Pilot for sale

2014 Subaru Outback

2010-2014 Subaru Outback

Like many of the company’s products, the Outback hits the nail on the head in a number of categories. Basically a lifted, long-roof version of the Legacy, the Outback is arguably the most well-known and most practical vehicle from Subaru. Buyers looking for one for around $10,000 should target examples from between the 2010-2014 model years. During these years, both a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and 3.6-liter V6 were offered. Overall, we think the 4-cylinder provides a better overall value given its fuel economy and the fact that you won’t pay a premium for it like you will the V6. Right now on Autorader, there are close to 300 2010-2014 Outbacks listed for around $10,000 or less. Find a Subaru Outback for sale

2011 Honda Element

2003-2011 Honda Element

The Honda Element is certainly unique. Shaped like a box on wheels, the Element was sold over just one generation from the 2003 to 2011 model years. It quickly garnered praise for its quirky, space-efficient design that included rear-hinged half doors behind the main front doors, a split rear tailgate and a composite rubber interior floor that makes for easier cleanups than traditional automotive carpet. This makes the Element great for everyone from small-business owners to pet owners to weekend warriors with gear and bikes and kayaks and other things to haul. There are currently about 400 used Elements spanning the 2003 to 2011 model years listed on Autotrader for around $10,000 or less, around 250 of which come with AWD. Find a Honda Element for sale

2015 Infiniti G-Series

2007-2015 Infiniti G-Series

Long second fiddle to the Germans and even the luxury brands of Honda and Toyota, Nissan’s Infiniti brand may not be the most exciting luxury marque, but its products tend to offer decent value, especially on the used market. Take the G-Series, for example. The fourth-generation G was offered from the 2007 through the 2015 model years and came in sedan, coupe and convertible body styles. Power was generous; opt for a G35 and you’re looking at a 3.5-liter V6 putting out 306 hp, while later G37s came with a — you guessed it — 3.7-liter V6 making about 330 hp. A 7-speed automatic was offered starting in 2008. 0-60 came in at about five seconds flat, which is seriously quick. Right now on Autotrader, there are around 300 AWD-equipped 2007-2015 Infiniti G-Series models listed for around $10,000 or less. Of these, most are the sedan body style, although there are around 30 coupes listed that fit within our budget as well. Find an Infiniti G-Series for sale

2015 Nissan Juke

2011-2015 Nissan Juke

The Juke has attributes of both a high-riding crossover and a hot hatchback, all jammed into a quirky package. Needless to say, this thing is unique, and with looks to match. A 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine came standard and made 188 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque; respectable figures for a vehicle of this size. While we don’t love the Juke’s continuously variable automatic transmission, it’s your only option if you want all-wheel traction. The Juke offers dialed-in handling with taut suspension tuning. There are currently over 250 AWD-equipped Jukes listed for sale on Autotrader for about $10,000 or less. Find a Nissan Juke for sale

2012 Toyota RAV4

2008-2012 Toyota RAV4

The RAV4 is all about dependable, no-nonsense transportation. Offered from the 2008 to 2012 model years, the third-generation RAV4 is now a great option for anyone looking for used AWD cars for around $10,000 or less. While a fun 2-door model was offered during the RAV4’s first generation, the third-gen RAV4 is strictly a 4-door. There are currently well over 500 2008-2012 RAV4s listed for sale on Autotrader that fit within our budget. Notable about the third-gen RAV4 is that a surprisingly powerful optional V6 model was offered that made this generally forgettable vehicle actually pretty fast. Of the more than 500 RAV4s listed on Autotrader that fit within out budget, over 100 actually come with this potent V6. Find a Toyota RAV4 for sale

2012 Ford Fusion

2010-2012 Ford Fusion

While you may not realize it, the Ford Fusion has been offered with optional AWD since its first generation; one of just a few midsize sedans on the market to do so. In the Fusion, AWD is available with either the 4- or 6-cylinder powertrain, allowing buyers to prioritize efficiency or performance. The Fusion received some updates for the 2010 model year, so we recommend focusing your search on examples from between 2010 and 2012. Right now on Autotrader, there are around 150 AWD-equipped Fusions from these model years that fall within our budget. Find a Ford Fusion for sale

2013 Subaru Forester

2009-2013 Subaru Forester

The Forester is another reasonably spacious, reasonably capable compact SUV. With generally good safety ratings and standard AWD, a used Forester makes a smart choice for just about any budget. The Forester even offered an optional turbocharged engine, which is great for buyers who do a lot of driving at higher elevation. Right now, it’s possible to pick up a 2009-2013 model for around our $10,000 budget, and there are currently about 800 to choose from on Autotrader, about 30 of which are the turbocharged XT model. If you’re looking for something a little newer, there are around 100 2012-2015 models listed from the Forester’s fourth generation, although most of these come in lower trim levels and have higher miles. Find a Subaru Forester for sale
