It’s no surprise that fashion and cars go way back. Countless fashion designers have collaborated with automakers on special-edition vehicles over the years, and Mercedes-Benz will forever be linked to NY Fashion Week in most of our minds. There are tons of similarities between vehicle and fashion design, so it really makes sense when you think about it: lines, proportions, textures, materials, colors …these elements could easily refer to either medium. A few years ago, the editors here at Autotrader fantasized about cars as fashion accessories; swapping out your ride to pair perfectly with your outfit of the moment (Can you imagine? Sign us up!). And with the recent NYFW (Spring/Summer 2018), we started thinking about cars and fashion once again. This time, instead of the cars themselves being the accessories, we’re calling out the cars that remind us of our very favorite fashion accessories and pieces of clothing. Whether it’s the color, the silhouette or the materials, something about these 5 vehicles brings up visions of Vogue mags in our heads.
Your favorite pair of designer jeans is the perfect shade of blue, with lines that conform to the shape of your body as if they were made just for you. The 2018 Lincoln Navigator Black Label Yacht Club edition’s Chroma Blue Crystal exterior instantly reminds you of that well-worn denim in your closet that you probably paid too much for but have gotten so much use out of that it was totally worth it. Inside, the Navigator’s whitewashed wood accents complement the Coastal Blue Venetian leather — very similar to the super-subtle white whiskering on your beloved blue jeans. With a twin-turbo 3.5-liter engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission and a starting price of around $96,650 (on sale later this year), the 2018 Navigator Yacht Club is the epitome of casual luxury — just like your fave designer denim.

A quilted leather handbag is one accessory that almost anyone who appreciates fashion has dreamt of owning at some point in her life. Whether it’s the iconic Chanel flap bag or a more modern Rebecca Minkoff cross body, a little quilted leather can take your already-stylish look to new heights. Interestingly enough, this works in the automotive world, too. The 2017 Nissan Maxima Platinum is available with Premium Ascot Leather diamond-quilted seats in buttery Cashmere or elegant Charcoal hues that immediately bring your favorite handbag to mind. The quilted pattern gives the entire interior a very chic, upscale vibe. Starting around $40,925, the Maxima Platinum also comes with a 300-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 that’s especially fun to drive in Sport mode, as you sink back into your luxurious quilted-leather driver’s seat.

There’s a reason why the “little black dress” is so often mentioned in the style sphere. Black is well-known to be a slimming shade, and a black dress is one of the most versatile pieces in your closet — it can easily be dressed up with stilettos and statement earrings or dressed down with a jean jacket and Chucks. The 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman in Jet Black Metallic has that versatile thing going for it, too. It’s the type of car you can easily see pulling up to a black tie affair (and being parked right up front) while being equally at home jetting from a barre class to ball games on the weekend. Starting at $56,350, with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, this pure sports car is pure driving fun … and you can be sure it’ll look damn good on you, no matter the occasion.

Gorgeous jewels can make an outfit, and there’s no accessory more eye-catching than a stunning statement necklace. A touch of bling is all you really need, which Volvo must have known when partnering with Swedish crystal manufacturer Orrefors for the crystal gearshift knob that comes standard on the XC90 T8 twin-engine PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle). Sitting in the bright, airy cabin, you can’t help but be wowed by the glittering gear shift. It’s small but packs a sparkly punch, just like your favorite crystal bib necklace from Bauble Bar. Starting around $69,595, the XC90 is one of our favorite SUVs (it was on Autotrader’s Must Test Drive list back in 2016), and the plug-in hybrid version helps you go green — another plus.

A little bit of color can go a long way, which is why you’ll often see fashionistas finish off their look with one boldly-hued item. It might be a cobalt blue clutch or a pair of peony pink peep toes. But our favorite pop of color is a ruby red lip when the rest of the look is more understated. So it’s no wonder the 2017 Mazda CX-5 in Soul Red Crystal Metallic gives us visions of an unexpected but not to be ignored accessory: our favorite lipstick shade. In our opinion, Mazda does one of the best (if not THE best) red in the industry, and we love spying the Soul Red CX-5 in a sea of silver, black and white cars. Starting around $25,580, the all-new 2017 CX-5’s 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine gets good gas mileage (24 mpg city/31 mpg hwy) and handles well, making it a solid small SUV option.
