With Father’s Day upon us, it gets us thinking about what gifts we can get for dad to show him how much we care. You could get him something lame like a tie or a “#1 Dad” coffee mug, but what about something a little bigger? What about dad’s dream truck?
Okay, a truck might be a bit out of your father’s day gift budget, but just in case you’re an especially good son or daughter or you just want to outdo your siblings, here are five great trucks for dad in 2019.
GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 is fully redesigned for 2019 along with its mechanical twin, the Chevrolet Silverado. These trucks got some interesting new engines including a turbocharged 4-cylinder and a new turbodiesel. The new Sierra has a few cool features that you can’t get in its Chevy counterpart, most notably an available carbon fiber bed and the industry-exclusive MultiPro tailgate, which has six different functions to perfectly suit dad’s needs. Whether he’s into the sporty Elevation trim, the rugged AT4 or the ritzy Denali model, just about any father will find something he likes in the GMC Sierra’s new model range. After a confusing hiatus, the Ford Ranger has finally returned to its home market of the good ole U.S. of A. We’re glad to have it back with its potent EcoBoost engine, affordable price and its impressive towing and payload capabilities for a midsize truck. Ford has a ton of dealer options for the new Ranger, meaning dad can order his exactly to his liking whether he wants to use it for fishing, hunting, mountain biking or just as a rugged daily driver. If a full-size truck is just too big, too expensive or too thirsty, the Ranger is one of the best midsize trucks for dad. Find a Ford Ranger for sale
Another truck that is all-new for 2019 is the Ram 1500. Benefiting from a much-needed update replacing the long-in-the-tooth outgoing truck, the all-new Ram gets an interesting mild hybrid system that comes standard on the base V6 and is optional on the HEMI V8. Don’t let the word “hybrid” scare you, this eTorque system gives the truck a nice boost in both torque and fuel economy. The new Ram also has a fantastic interior that is arguably best-in-class with an available 12-in infotainment system and it can get especially fancy in the higher trims like the Limited model. If your dad is more the off-roading type, he’ll love the attitude and capability of the Ram Rebel. Find a Ram 1500 for sale
Maybe your dad is more of the practical type. Perhaps he’s a minivan dad and has experienced some truck envy, but doesn’t want to give up a comfortable, car-like ride and family-friendly interior. That’s where the midsize, unibody Honda Ridgeline comes in. It’s really not that different than the Honda Pilot, which is a great family SUV, but with a truck bed in lieu of a third row of seats. In the bed, there’s a clever in-bed trunk, a flat load floor, a dual-action tailgate and even an available in-bed audio system that’s perfect for tailgating. It might not be the toughest or most rugged truck in its class, but it just might be the most practical. Find a Honda Ridgeline for sale
The Ford F-Series is America’s best-selling vehicle for good reasons. There’s truly a Ford F-150 for every taste with its huge variety in engines, trims and options available. From the no-nonsense lower trims for the working dad up to the opulent Platinum and Limited trims for the dads who enjoy the finer things in life to the absolutely insane Raptor delivering tremendous performance both on-road and off, it’s not hard to see why this truck is a perennial best-seller. When it comes to the heavy lifting, the F-150 is very capable when optioned with the stronger engines and like its General Motors rivals, it even has a turbo-diesel that is newly available.
