A used convertible can be a great way to have some drop-top fun on a budget. Even if you’re looking in the sub-$5,000 range, there are plenty of very affordable convertibles out there to satisfy your budget.
Here are six good used convertibles you can find on Autotrader for less than $5,000.
1994-2004 Ford Mustang
If you’re looking for a Ford Mustang under the $5,000 mark, the sweet spot is in the SN95 generation that ran from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s. These are abundant on the used market and many of them are convertibles. You get your choice of a V6 or a V8 engine and an automatic or a manual transmission. Whether you’re looking for an affordable, cool-looking cruiser or a more muscular convertible, there’s a used Mustang out there for you. Find a Ford Mustang for sale
2003-2010 Volkswagen New Beetle
Whether you call it the New Beetle or just the Beetle, this Volkswagen is a can be had as a cute little convertible at very affordable prices. This Beetle was one of the first cars to kick off the retro styling craze and we think it did it well with plenty of old school styling cues while still looking modern. It also offers peppy performance and nice, tight handling along with a quality interior. Find a Volkswagen Beetle for sale
1999-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata
No list of used convertibles would be complete without a Miata. If you’re shopping in the sub-$5,000 price range, you’re going to be in the territory of the NB generation of the Miata. It has a lot in common with the original NA Miata, but with updated styling to bring it more in line with the Mazda design language of the time. The NB offers everything that people love about the Miata like lightweight, sure-footed, top-down fun with a reliable engine and a low price tag. Find a Mazda MX-5 Miata for sale
2005-2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Love or hate the PT Cruiser, Chrysler sold a ton of these cars and a good amount of them were 2-door convertibles. The retro design of the PT Cruiser gives it a certain charm and the convertible variant adds a level of fun that the hatchback version can’t quite match. This Chrysler was pretty affordable when it was new and now it’s old enough that it’s very easy to find at a low price point like this. Find a Chrysler PT Cruiser for sale
2000-2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder
It’s possible to find the final generation of the Eclipse in this price range, but most of the ones you find under $5,000 will be the 2000-2005 models. The Spyder convertible models were available in the GS, GT and GTS trims and we recommend the GTS Spyder with the 210-horsepower V6 engine. The design of this Eclipse was heavily based on the Mitsubishi SST concept car and it has a look that is still distinct today looking not quite like anything else on the road. 2006-2009 Pontiac G6
The Pontiac G6 that replaced the old Grand Am was a big upgrade when it first came out. It’s notable for being an affordable volume car that was available as a hardtop convertible meaning you didn’t need to deal with a soft ragtop but also didn’t need to spring for an expensive luxury car. We think the styling of the G6 is aging well and we also like this car’s sporty handling and strong V6 engine which was standard on the convertible models. Find a Pontiac G6 for sale
