Drivers looking for drop-top driving pleasure on a modest budget are in luck. The used car market is full of fun modern convertibles at affordable prices. A budget of $15,000 can go a long way, and you might be surprised by how nice a convertible you can get at that price point.
Here are seven great used convertibles that you can find on Autotrader for under $15,000.
2006-2013 BMW 3 Series
The E93 generation of the BMW 3 Series convertible is in a sweet spot of value on the used market right now. It’s new enough to still be modern, yet it’s old enough to have gone through some depreciation, which makes it pretty affordable. The E93 was the first 3 Series convertible with a folding aluminum hardtop roof, which will definitely make your friends think you spent more on this Bimmer than you really did. In classic BMW fashion, this car does a great job of blending luxury and performance in a driver-centric package. Find a BMW 3 Series for sale
2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro
The fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro was a huge hit when it returned in 2010 after an almost decadelong hiatus. Now, these cars have been around for a while and they’re pretty plentiful on the used market, meaning you can pick up one of these muscular convertibles at a great price. There are even some V8-powered SS models in this price range, which is a serious bargain in used modern performance cars. That it’s a convertible makes it even more fun to drive. The Camaro got a nice facelift in 2014, giving it a more modern look. Find a Chevrolet Camaro for sale
2010-2014 Ford Mustang
The Ford Mustang is an American icon — it’s a cool sports car with strong performance that’s also affordable. The Mustang to get in this price range is the post-facelift S-197-generation Mustang, which has a revised look and upgraded interior materials. Like the Camaro, it’s possible to find a V8-powered Mustang GT convertible for under $15,000, which is a tremendous muscle car bargain. We’re especially big fans of the Coyote V8 engine that was introduced for the 2011 model year, which makes big power and produces an especially intoxicating exhaust note. Find a Ford Mustang for sale
2006-2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata
The NC generation of the Mazda MX-5 Miata, which ran from the mid-2000s through the mid-2010s, might be the most controversial Miata, but we think it’s a great little roadster and an excellent bargain in used convertibles. The NC is a little bigger and heavier than previous generations of the Miata, but it’s still an absolute delight to drive, with agile handling and a potent engine, while offering improved comfort and more modern amenities than its predecessors. This Mazda is also pretty good on gas for a sports car. Find a Mazda MX-5 Miata for sale
2006-2012 Porsche Boxster
The 987 generation of the Porsche Boxster is a great value in used luxury convertibles. As you would expect from any car bearing the Porsche badge, the Boxster seamlessly blends luxury and performance in a way that few — if any — of its rivals can imitate. The handling is outstanding, the power from its flat-6 engines is potent, and the optional PDK automatic transmission is simply superb. If you can find a high-performance Boxster S in this price range, it’s a worthwhile upgrade over the standard model. Find a Porsche Boxster for sale
2007-2009 Saturn Sky
The Saturn Sky was a short-lived experiment in which General Motors tried to make a roadster that could go head to head with the likes of the Miata. The car didn’t last because the Saturn brand didn’t last. The Sky was gone too soon. We especially recommend the turbocharged Red Line trim, which is fairly easy to find in this price range. Another option is the Pontiac Solstice (and the high-performance Solstice GXP), which is mechanically identical to the Sky but has a different aesthetic. These cars are good if you want a fun roadster but you also want something that’s a little different from the more ubiquitous Miata. Find a Saturn Sky for sale
2013-2019 Volkswagen Beetle
The undeniable cuteness of the Volkswagen Beetle convertible is only a part of what makes it a good buy. The Beetle has a generous list of standard features, such as an attractive interior, and is available with a peppy 2.0-liter turbocharged engine borrowed from the VW GTI that we recommend, if you can find one at this price point. The Beetle is a good choice for drivers who want a practical, front-wheel-drive compact car but who also want something that stands out from the crowd. Adding a convertible top to the formula makes it even more fun. Find a Volkswagen Beetle for sale
