Certified Pre-Owned Deals: Volvo XC90, S60 and XC60

The market for clean SUVs and sedans has never been more active with plenty of great cars available. Certified Pre-Owned models are the best used vehicles you can buy and include such important elements as extended warranties and a full mechanical review of the vehicle to ensure it is sound, safe, and ready for the road.

The following is a list of three Volvos that offer extreme value, comfort, and safety: the XC60, XC90, and S60. Two are very capable SUVs with high-tech equipment throughout and the S60 is a sedan of many personas. We’ve included the current Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) pricing here so you and shop and compare before you head to the dealership or online. The checklist noted here includes some things that make Volvo’s CPO Program special.

About the 2018 Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 is an impressive SUV exhibiting equal parts of luxury, utility, and style. Available in nine trims from the base model T5 Momentum through to the T8 with hybrid drive, there are plenty of features and drivetrains to pick from. Exterior styling is clean and the interior is packed with high-tech equipment that provides comfort and safety. The engine packages start with the 2.0-liter 250-horsepower 4-cylinder engine and advance to a 316-hp turbo/supercharged 2.0-liter engine. At the top end, a sophisticated 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine works in tandem with a plug-in hybrid motor.

What best about the 2018 Volvo XC60

The XC90 offers an advanced technology menu that includes the optional Pilot Assist system with semi-autonomous operation in conjunction with adaptive cruise control. The Sensus Infotainment option features larger than base-level touch screen icons for improved visibility. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on most XC60’s. The very cool R Design trim gives a uniquely sporty feel to the luxurious interior by among other things, slanting the instrument panel gauges toward the driver for easier info recognition. The seating is amazingly comfortable with side support and soft-touch surfaces, an optional Bower & Wilkins sound system, and beautiful wood grain.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 a safe car?

As with most Volvos, the XC60 is an extremely safe SUV designed by engineers committed to reducing (to eliminating in the near future!) all passenger injury in collisions. Volvo engineering puts a high level of time into creating a chassis that protects the occupants in an accident and a suspension that is competent enough to avoid accidents altogether. Cross-traffic alert with stop and collision avoidance are just two of the highlight technologies that make Volvo a leader in safe vehicle construction.

About the 2018 Volvo XC90

The biggest vehicle in the Volvo line up, this “midsized” SUV combines with high levels of Volvo-approved safety elements spread over seven different trims. From the base level T5 platform up to the T8 that includes an impressive plug-in hybrid system that takes mileage up to an EPA rated 62 MPGe, it’s easy to see why this SUV has a passionate buyer following. While the base XC90 today will cost in the mid-$30,000 range, the top-of-the-line vehicles are still fetching north of $60,000 so don’t be surprised when shopping online if some XC90’s carry a high price tag.

What is best about the 2018 Volvo XC90?

In a word – comfort. The XC90 features air ride suspension that delivers one of the smoothest rides around, especially for SUV buyers. Not only can the XC90 lower itself when parked, but it can also even tilt down in the rear to allow for easier cargo and passenger loading-unloading. The XC90 also includes a high level of technological support systems. These include rear cross-traffic alert and the legendary Volvo collision avoidance system that will stop this big machine at low speeds to avoid impact. The Bowers & Wilkins 224-watt audio system is over the top and the 360-degree camera system will keep you aware of anything around the perimeter of the vehicle to avoid unwanted body shop visits.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC90 a safe car?

As noted with the XC60, the XC90 features all of the critical Volvo engineering elements that keep the occupants safe. The luxurious interior belies the large number of airbags that protect all occupants from injury. This is another reason why the XC90 does so well in crash tests and earns the NHTSA 5-star rating. Volvo has also done a great job of keeping gauges and other interior readouts legible so that the driver can quickly glance from the road, check the gauges and other elements quickly, and return their eyes to the road as soon as possible. Alerts also stand ready if the driver is operating the vehicle erratically or appears drowsy by activating an icon and a chime that a “coffee” break might be a good thing in order to avoid an accident.

About the 2018 Volvo S60

Clearly different from the SUVs above, the S60 is a 4-door sedan. But its versatility for family use and focus on safety make it something all buyers should consider. The S60 exhibits a number of personalities depending on the trim level. The base T5 is a comfortable, efficient sedan sporting 240 hp from the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Those who opt for the R-design trim get a 302-hp engine, which completely changes the persona of the S60. Want still more? The S60 Polestar features a 362-hp engine, Brembo brakes, Ohlins shocks, and 20-inch wheels. It delivers 0-to-60 mph times in the 4.4-second range.

But rather than believe that the S60 is first and foremost a performance sedan, this mild-mannered Volvo offers big helpings of safety and luxury. This depends on how it is appointed. The optional equipment list includes keyless start, rear parking sensors, rear view camera, collision warning with full auto brake, and adaptive cruise control.

What best about the 2018 Volvo S60

The S60 is, as noted, tunable to the driver’s needs. For those looking for a safe and stable sedan, it checks those boxes.  If high performance is a requirement, it does that as well. Want a comfortable interior with all the key technology elements? There is an optional Harman/Kardon premium audio system available along with navigation, heated seats and steering wheel, and adaptive cruise control. We do like the manual mode shifter that takes the shifting from simply automatic gear and changes into an individual gear selector with a simple push-down action.

Is the 2018 Volvo S60 a safe car?

We are starting to sound like a broken record, but in a word, yes. The S60 is a very safe car. The NHTSA 5 star rating is only a piece of that safety picture. Years ago, Volvo set out to become the safety leader. It dedicated itself to this as a core trait of the brand. With cross-traffic alert with a full stop feature, driver alert warning to denote irregular driving patterns, and collision alert warnings that are among the best in the business, Volvo has delivered on that safety promise. With air bags galore to protect the occupants and a suspension that is reactive to driver input to avoid accidents in the first place, the S60 offers drivers and passengers alike peace of mind.
