If you’re interested in buying a used car, you’ve probably run across several certified pre-owned (CPO) programs, which provide manufacturer-backed warranties and other benefits for recent used models. One such benefit is special deals and incentives, which are offered by several automakers on their CPO cars. We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite CPO deals for shoppers interested in getting new-car peace of mind for used-car money.
Audi’s CPO program is one of the best in the business, touting 6 years or 100,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage for qualifying models. In June, Audi’s CPO program also gives drivers another reason to consider it: a special financing rate. Through the end of the month, qualified shoppers interested in financing a CPO Audi can get 1.9 percent interest for an excellent 72 months — an unusually good deal that Audi doesn’t even offer on new models. The only catch: It only applies to 2012 and 2013 models. But that’s a large portion of Audi’s CPO inventory, so it shouldn’t be too much of a drawback for shoppers who want a good deal on a used car.
BMW’s CPO program is among our favorites, as it offers stellar coverage: 6 years or 100,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage on most models, or slightly less for the brand’s newer Certified Pre-Owned Elite vehicles. In June, BMW’s CPO program offers even more benefits than usual, as the automaker is touting two special incentives to lure buyers. For qualified drivers looking to finance, BMW is offering 0.9 percent interest for up to 36 months on all 2011, 2012 and 2013 models. Meanwhile, shoppers getting a CPO 5 Series can get an even better deal, as BMW is offering two free payments on all 2011, 2012 and 2013 5 Series models.
Ford’s CPO program has several benefits over buying a standard used car. There is, for instance, the 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, the 1-year or 12,000-mile bumper-to-bumper plan, a 3-month subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio and a free 172-point inspection. And now, there’s another reason to buy a CPO Ford model this month: The automaker is offering 1.9 percent interest for up to 72 months on all CPO Edge, Escape, Fusion and F-150 models. That’s an especially good deal for a used car.
GMC’s CPO program offers 5 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage, along with 1 year or 12,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage that starts the day you buy your vehicle or the day the original bumper-to-bumper warranty ends. That’s a good program, and it’s enriched by a special incentive available this month on the brand’s Acadia crossover. GMC is offering 1.9 percent interest to qualified shoppers on CPO Acadia models through the end of the month, which is an excellent deal, but one that unfortunately doesn’t apply to any of the brand’s models aside from the Acadia.
Hyundai’s CPO warranty is well-regarded as one of the best in the industry. It reinstates the brand’s excellent 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain coverage and 5-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper coverage that’s usually lost on a secondhand Hyundai model. And this month, drivers interested in a CPO Hyundai have yet another reason to get excited: The automaker is offering 1.9 percent interest for up to 36 months on all CPO models. That’s a great deal that most automakers don’t even offer on their newest vehicles.
Kia Optima and Sorento
Kia’s CPO program is among the best in the business for the same reasons that its sister brand, Hyundai, has such a good program: a long, comprehensive warranty. Specifically, Kia’s warranty offers bumper-to-bumper coverage for 5 years or 60,000 miles from the original sale date, along with powertrain coverage for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. In June, Kia is also offering an extra incentive to help sweeten the pot for qualified drivers: 0 percent interest on all CPO Sorento and Optima models for up to 36 months, 1.9 percent for 60 months or 2.9 percent for 72 months. All three deals are excellent options — especially for a used vehicle.
Lincoln’s CPO program offers a lot of excellent benefits, including a 6-year or 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 3-month free trial of SiriusXM radio and 24-hour roadside assistance. In June, there’s an additional benefit to Lincoln’s CPO warranty: a special financing rate for qualified shoppers. Through the end of the month, the brand is offering 1.9 percent interest for up to 48 months on all CPO Lincoln models, which is an excellent deal for a used car.
Volkswagen Jetta and Passat
Volkswagen’s CPO program offers a comprehensive 2 years or 24,000 miles of warranty coverage from the day you buy your CPO vehicle. In June, it also offers an excellent deal for qualified shoppers interested in buying a CPO Volkswagen. That deal is a low interest rate on all CPO Volkswagen Jetta and Passat models: 0.9 percent interest for up to 36 months. This isn’t a bad offer considering that new Jetta and Passat models are typically only offered with the same deal for up to 60 months.
What it means to you: If you’re interested in getting a great deal on a used car, our list of CPO deals and incentives is an excellent place to start your search.
