- CTS will add Stealth Blue and Silver Frost colors
- The matte colors will have limited production
- The colors will launch in March ahead of the new CTS
The 2013 Cadillac CTS will soon offer two new special editions. Dubbed Silver Frost and Stealth Blue, the new models feature unique paint schemes. Cadillac likely hopes that they’ll lure buyers before a redesigned CTS is launched later this year.
According to Cadillac, the Silver Frost special edition will be the rarer of its two new colors. Limited to just 100 units, Silver Frost is only available on the CTS-V Coupe. Much like BMW’s Frozen Gray M3, the Silver Frost CTS-V uses matte paint to give the car a unique look.
Also like Frozen Gray, Silver Frost requires special attention when cleaning. Cadillac says CTS-V Coupes finished in the color should only be hand washed. The automaker also says the color will emit a low sparkle when certain light reflects off it, which is the result of a long development process.
Cadillac’s second special color, dubbed Stealth Blue, has a wider availability. Cadillac says Stealth Blue is available on all three CTS-V variants as well as the standard CTS Coupe. Like Silver Frost, Stealth Blue is a matte finish that gives the car a dull look with a slight sparkle in some light. Unlike Silver Frost, Stealth Blue also boasts a unique interior color. Dubbed Twilight Blue, the color was designed specially to match the Stealth Blue exterior finish. But while Stealth Blue will be more common than Silver Frost, CTS models finished in the color will also have to be washed by hand.
“We’ve spent a significant amount of time developing these colors so that owners don’t have to deviate too much from their normal maintenance routines yet still have a distinct and dramatic finish to their performance vehicle,” said Michelle Killen, Cadillac’s lead creative designer for exterior paints.
Cadillac has not yet announced pricing for its new colors. Both the Stealth Blue and Silver Frost CTS models will go on sale in March. That’s directly before Cadillac reveals an all-new CTS. The brand is expected to pull the cover off a new, third generation CTS in late March at this year’s New York Auto Show.
What it means to you: While the 2013 Cadillac CTS model’s Stealth Blue and Silver Frost will require extra upkeep, fans of matte cars likely won’t mind the labor.
