2013 Hyundai Accent Gets Upgraded Equipment

  • Base GLS gets standard air conditioning and six-speaker audio with iPod/USB inputs
  • Keyless entry and color-keyed power heated side mirrors and door handles now standard across the model lineup
  • SE now has optional power sunroof

Hyundai is adding more standard equipment to its Accent subcompact for the 2013 model year, bringing more value to the base four-door GLS. Five-door hatchback GS and SE models are improved, too, and a power sunroof is now available as an option on the top SE.

The Accent was redesigned for the 2012 model year. For 2013, it remains powered by a sophisticated 1.6-liter direct injection engine. It achieves best-in-class power and fuel economy with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The EPA rates the Accent at 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway with either gearbox.

Hyundai’s additions show that even in the economically focused subcompact segment, fuel efficiency isn’t everything. Shoppers certainly prefer more comfort and convenience features, too. Across all trim levels, the Accent now includes remote keyless entry, cloth door panel inserts and power heated side mirrors. The side mirrors and exterior door handles finished in the body color lend a higher-grade appearance.

Improvements to the base GLS four-door include standard air conditioning and upgraded audio. A six-speaker AM/FM/SiriusXM unit includes CD and MP3 capability, plus USB and iPod auxiliary jacks. A sunglasses holder is also now standard on the GLS.

The Accent SE has new side mirrors with integrated turn signals and an optional power sunroof; these are uncommon features on subcompacts at the Accent’s level.

With larger cars achieving ever higher fuel economy, subcompacts are no longer alone in offering drivers 40-mpg efficiency. But when it comes to the price on the window sticker, these small cars remain tough to beat. Adding standard equipment like air conditioning and a capable sound system means even the base 2013 Accent GLS can provide comfort and convenience without the high price of a long options list.

What it means to you: Shoppers seeking economy without sacrificing comfort should check out the upgraded 2013 Hyundai Accent.
