- New Chevy SS to go on sale late 2013
- Price starts at just over $44,000
- Only one version offered
If you’re into American performance cars, you’ve probably seen and read plenty about the new Chevrolet SS. A purpose-built race car that was made to look like the SS has been doing well in NASCAR, and we’ve long known about the car’s V8 front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout. What we haven’t known is the car’s price and equipment details.
The price for the 2014 Chevrolet SS is $44,470, including $995 for destination charges. The SS will be sold in the U.S. only and is Chevy’s first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan since 1996. The SS is offered in just one trim level, so there’s no SS LT, SS 1LT or SS LTZ.
The SS comes well-equipped; standard features include navigation, sunroof, Bose audio system, rear-parking camera, dual-zone climate control and keyless entry with push-button start. To keep weight down, the hood and trunk lid are aluminum.
Under that lightweight hood is a powerful LS3 6.2-liter V8 that’s good for 415 horsepower, with 0-to-60 miles per hour coming up in just five seconds. Brembo brakes with 14-inch rotors are standard, as are 19-in by 8.5-in forged aluminum wheels with 245/40ZR19 tires in front and 19-in by 9-in forged aluminum wheels with 275/35ZR19 tires at the rear.
The SS will be available in five exterior colors: Mystic Green, Silver Ice Metallic, Red Hot 2, Phantom Black Metallic and Heron White. Interior colors are less extravagant, with black being your only choice.
What it means to you: Look for the 2014 Chevrolet SS priced at $44,470 to go on sale in the latter part of 2013.
