- 2014 Civic Hybrid and Civic Natural Gas on sale in January
- Natural Gas models receive face-lift; both get new tech features
- Other 2014 Civic models adding CVT automatic in place of 5-speed
The 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid and the alternative-fuel Civic Natural Gas will be on sale soon. Honda recently confirmed the fuel-efficient compact cars will reach dealers in January, alongside freshly tweaked 2014 Civic coupe and sedan models.
The biggest updates will come to the 2012 Civic Natural Gas, which — as the model’s name suggests — is a Civic sedan powered by natural gas. After sitting out the 2013 model year, during which the Civic Natural Gas was only offered to fleet buyers, the model is back for 2014 with several exterior and interior revisions that were given to the normal Civic sedan in 2013.
That means the Civic Natural Gas will include a face-lifted exterior and an updated interior, along with several new gadgets. Such tech features include Bluetooth with audio streaming, an available reversing camera, and an infotainment system with text messaging and Pandora Internet radio capabilities.
As for the 2014 Honda Civic Hybrid, changes won’t be as dramatic. Like other Civic sedans, the Hybrid received several interior and exterior updates for the 2013 model year. As a result, changes to the 2014 Civic Hybrid are limited to a few newly optional high-tech gadgets. They include a 7-inch touchscreen, Honda’s LaneWatch blind spot camera and keyless access with push-button starting.
Other 2014 Civic models will receive larger revisions. The Civic coupe, for instance, will feature interior and exterior revisions designed to give it a sportier look and feel. And gas-powered Civic models will ditch their standard 5-speed automatic in favor of a continuously variable automatic transmission, also known as a CVT. The CVT, which brings improved fuel economy and a smoother driving experience, is already standard in the Civic Hybrid.
If you’re interested in a 2014 Civic, you won’t have to wait long. Gas-powered models are already reaching dealers, while Hybrid and Natural Gas versions are only a few weeks away from going on sale.
What it means to you: The 2014 Civic Natural Gas is getting major updates for the 2014 model year, while other Civic models are adding new technology and — in the case of the Civic coupe — updated styling. All will be on sale soon.
