- Completely redesigned for the 2014 model year
- Includes standard air conditioning, power windows and Bluetooth hands-free
- Priced starting at $15,900
Kia announced pricing for its completely redesigned compact sedan, which arrives in dealer showrooms soon. The 2014 Kia Forte will have a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $15,900, the lowest base price in the compact segment.
Kia will offer two trim choices for the 2014 Forte sedan: LX or EX. The SX trim offered on the 2013 Forte is not available for the 2014 model year. The LX comes standard with conveniences such as air conditioning and power windows, but it also includes more premium features, too. Bluetooth hands-free, SiriusXM satellite radio and steering-wheel-mounted controls are all standard. Adding the $900 Popular Package brings extras such as alloy wheels, cruise control and remote keyless entry.
In addition to a new design, the 2014 Forte is offered with a new engine as well. A 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine is now the base powerplant in the Forte LX. It’s good for 148 horsepower and is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or optional 6-speed automatic. The price premium for the automatic is $1,500.
The 2014 Forte EX retains the more sophisticated direct-injection 2.0-liter 4-cylinder offered in the current Forte. The larger motor produces more power — 173 hp — and is paired exclusively with the 6-speed automatic.
Priced at $19,400, the Forte EX includes premium features such as Kia’s UVO infotainment system and a backup camera. The $2,600 Premium Package adds a sunroof, push-button start, heated front seats, heated rear seat bottoms, a heated steering wheel and a ventilated driver’s seat. That package is also required to get the $2,300 Technology Package. It brings navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control and HID headlights.
With the lowest price in the compact segment, the base 2014 Forte LX clearly competes on price. But the Popular Package offers a bit more comfort for not much more money. And the Forte EX isn’t too much pricier, but it comes with the more powerful engine and a standard automatic transmission, which adds value. Plus, for drivers who must have all the latest technology, the Forte EX with the Premium and Technology packages may be an affordable choice.
The 2014 Kia Forte is set to arrive in dealer showrooms by April 20, 2013.
What it means to you: If you’re looking for value in a compact sedan, consider the 2014 Forte. The totally redesigned model has a starting price of $15,900, the lowest in its segment.
