2015 Ford Edge Revealed

  • 2015 Edge will go on sale in North America early next year
  • Will be first Ford vehicle with standard EcoBoost engine
  • Available driver-assist technologies include adaptive steering and inflatable seat belt airbags

The all-new 2015 Ford Edge crossover utility vehicle (CUV) will arrive early next year with tangible improvements on virtually every front. It will offer more power, enhanced vehicle dynamics, a roster of new technology, and higher levels of overall refinement than the outgoing model.

When it was first introduced in 2006, the Edge helped pave the way for the CUV segment with remarkable interior comfort, impressive fuel economy and carlike road manners. It appears that the next-generation Edge will build upon all these strengths to deliver a more complete and compelling vehicle.

“The original Edge was our first entry into the world of crossover utilities — a technologically advanced vehicle that was the perfect blend of sedan comfort and efficiency with SUV functionality,” said Raj Nair, group vice president of global product development. “Now, we are building on that success and building on the emotional appeal of the vehicle by offering more of the technology our customers want in a package that meets the highest expectations for quality and craftsmanship.”

Ford’s global platform and new suspension setup will give the Edge a true edge over other utilities when it comes to delivering a balanced ride-and-handling equation. This platform is shared with the brand’s perennial sedan, the Fusion.

For power, the all-new Edge will deliver three engine options, two of which are new — a standard twin-scroll 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. A carry-over 3.5-liter V6 engine will also be offered. All three choices are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Edge represents the first Ford vehicle to feature a standard EcoBoost engine across its range. This award-winning engine is known for its even blend of efficiency and robustness.

On the technology front, the new Edge will offer a number of new and innovative driver-assistance features and safety upgrades, such as an adaptive steering system, enhanced active parking assist, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, a 180-degree front camera with a washer system, a glove-box-mounted airbag system and inflatable rear seat belt airbags.

Also new to the Edge is a premium-level Titanium series trim, loaded with technology and visual upgrades for the more discerning buyer.

What it means to you: If you’re in the market for a well-rounded CUV with the latest technology and safety as well as an efficient-yet-powerful engine, the 2015 Ford Edge may be the answer. Unfortunately, that also means you have to wait about nine months before getting a test drive.
