- All-new Nissan Maxima officially unveiled in Super Bowl ad
- New Maxima features totally new look, but the rest is unknown
- Further details expected at the New York Auto Show in April
The all-new 2016 Nissan Maxima has been officially unveiled in a Super Bowl ad. Nissan eschewed a typical auto show debut or the traditional choreographed press conference to instead reveal the next-generation Maxima in a poignant ad, officially dubbed “With Dad.”
In the commercial, a son is shown growing up with a father who often spends time away racing cars for Nissan. Although the son seems disappointed by his father’s absence, he’s excited when his father wins a big race in Nissan’s new GT-R Nismo LMP1 race car. At the end of the ad, the father is back, picking up his son in his personal car, an all-new Maxima.
While Nissan didn’t announce any details about the upcoming Maxima, or even focus on it in the ad, the car can clearly be seen from the side and back. It’s heavily revised from the current model, offering wavy lines, huge wheel arches, a new grille and an unusual roofline that’s reminiscent of the new Murano. The sedan also offers LED taillights and running lights in front.
Unfortunately for shoppers interested in the full-size Nissan, the commercial doesn’t show the sedan’s interior, nor does it reveal engine specs, pricing or other key information. The good news is that we expect to learn those details in April when the Maxima makes its official debut at the New York Auto Show.
In the meantime, count us impressed with Nissan’s decision to reveal an all-new car when so many eyes were watching.
What it means to you: The 2016 Nissan Maxima marks a renewed interest from the brand in the full-size sedan segment.
