Temperatures are quickly dropping in Atlanta, so this is really the first chance I’ve had while driving our long-term 2018 Mazda CX-9 to use two of my all-time favorite in-car features: the heated seats and the heated steering wheel.
Hot, Hot, Hot
Ahhh, warmth. There’s nothing I love more. I absolutely DESPISE being cold. I’m originally from Miami, so Atlanta’s winters feel freezing to me. I don’t think I could survive in the Northeast or Midwest. The minute temps drop below 70 degrees Fahrenheit, I take that as a sign to start warming my seat. Like most cars nowadays, the CX-9’s heated seats have three levels of warmth, and you can toggle through them by simply pressing a button. What I really like is that your setting remains intact even when you shut off the vehicle — something I appreciate most when I’m out running errands on a freezing cold Saturday, and frequently getting in and out of the car.
Looking for Some Hot Stuff
The CX-9’s Grand Touring and Signature trims both come with a heated steering wheel and heated 2nd row seats. Since my kids are still in child safety seats (my son is in a car seat and my daughter is in a booster), we can’t really take advantage of the heated back seats. But the heated steering wheel is something I take advantage of daily right now! It warms up quickly and makes driving in the winter so much more comfortable. My only gripe is that the heated steering wheel on/off button, unlike the heated seats that keep your setting when the car shuts off, reverts back to "off" mode as soon as you turn off the car. Why in the world wouldn’t they have both heating functions work the same way? We’ll never know, but thankfully it’s just a minor inconvenience.
Some Like It Hot
At this point in my life, I don’t know that I could buy a car without a heated steering wheel and heated front seats. These things are a luxury, to be sure, but given my personal hatred of being cold, I think they’re a necessity for me. Of course, in an SUV like the 2018 Mazda CX-9, this means spending quite a bit more for one of the upper trim levels to get these features. If you want these two luxury features in your next car, but keeping costs down is a top priority, you may want to consider a gently used certified pre-owned vehicle. Find a Mazda CX-9 for sale
