Two-door SUVs come and go with the wind. Every few years, it seems that an automaker will give one a try only to discontinue it after a few years of slow sales. As a result, 2-door SUVs occupy a special niche in the automotive world, and they’re popular among enthusiasts given their rarity.
Here are five cool 2-door SUVs currently for sale on Autotrader.
The Ford Bronco is quickly becoming a classic, and this white 1995 model is particularly cool. The black-painted grille, fender flares, cap and bumpers form a nice contrast with the white exterior. While the top on these later Broncos wasn’t supposed to be removable, it’s still possible to do with the right tools — meaning you could have a classic hardtop SUV for the cold winter months and a fun convertible when warmer weather comes around. There are even aftermarket canvas tops available for in-between days. Regardless, the Bronco is once again one of the coolest SUVs on the road, and its simple, F150-based architecture means it’s easy to maintain. This one is in Huntington, New York, with just under 96,000 miles on the odometer, for $7,995. Find a Ford Bronco for sale
For just four model years in the 1990s, and in extremely limited numbers, Land Rover sold its legendary Defender here in the United States. The 4-door Defender 110 was offered for 1993, while the 2-door Defender 90 was sold here in 1994, 1995 and 1997. As a result of their extreme rarity, these North American Specification Defenders carry a massive price premium and sell for six figures in top condition. This one is one of the nicest Defenders currently for sale on Autotrader. It’s a 1997 model — the only year in which the Defender offered an automatic transmission in the States — and it’s in Lakewood, Colorado, with 68,500 miles on the odometer and an eye-watering $90,000 asking price. The Paceman might go down in history as the weirdest Mini of all time. Based on the 4-door Countryman, which shares many of its components with the meat-and-potatoes Mini Cooper hatchback, the Paceman is a 2-door compact crossover. There’s really no other modern vehicle like it. This particular example is a top-spec John Cooper Works ALL4 performance model, and it packs a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine under its hood putting out 208 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque — figures that, admittedly, won’t blow your socks off but at least give performance characteristics. Calling the Paceman an SUV is a bit of a stretch, as it’s more of a high-riding hatchback. Still, if something as charmingly impractical as the Paceman is on your shopping list, this one is in Boardman, Ohio, with just less than 36,000 miles on the odometer. It wouldn’t be right to put together a list of 2-door SUVs without including the venerable Wrangler. Fully redesigned for 2018, the JL-generation Jeep Wrangler boasts easy-to-remove convertible top and doors, a folding windshield with an integrated roll cage, an interior that’s much more refined than in previous generations and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rest assured, it’s still a Jeep in every sense of the word, from its blocky exterior design to its robust, functional cabin, but the new Wrangler is significantly easier to live with day-to-day than any of its predecessors. Wranglers hold their value remarkably well, and buying used doesn’t necessarily mean saving a bunch of money. This basic Sport S model in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, still carries a price tag of just under $30,000, despite already having 18,000 miles on its odometer. Find a Jeep Wrangler for sale
The Range Rover Evoque debuted for the 2012 model year as a low-cost, entry-level Range Rover aimed at young professionals who likely couldn’t quite afford the traditional models in the Range Rover lineup. In line with the economical, youth-oriented theme, Range Rover went on to debut coupe and convertible versions of the Evoque, although neither of these vehicles met much success and were discontinued after only a few years. Needless to say, the 2-door Evoque is rare, and there are only 50 currently listed for sale on Autotrader. This one has 62,000 miles on the odometer and is in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with an asking price of $15,900. Find a Land Rover Range Rover Evoque for sale
