5 Great CPO Luxury Sedans Under $40,000

If you want to shop for Autobahn-worthy luxury sedans but don’t want to spend more than the cost of a nicely loaded Toyota Camry, you have a lot of options. There are some great cars available under $40,000 — and don’t worry, they come with a warranty! Certified pre-owned (CPO) programs are available from just about every manufacturer — and they’re a great way to find the perfect car and add some peace of mind with an extended warranty. So then, let’s get on with it.

2016 Audi A7 3.0T Premium Plus

2016 Audi A7 3.0T Premium Plus – $38,991

I’ll start with one of my favorites, the Audi A7. Just look at that profile: The “7” cars at Audi (A7, S7 and RS 7) are some of the best looking cars on the road, in my opinion. I originally hoped to find a CPO S7 at the $40,000-or-less mark, but it wasn’t to be. Not to worry, though: With this A7, you still get the 6-cylinder supercharged engine from the S4 and S5 that puts out 333 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. It’s a great engine, and even in a car the size of the A7 it feels adequate. Plus, again, just look at that shape: This is a beautiful car. This one comes from Audi of North Atlanta and has a minuscule 27,808 miles! Sign me up. Find an Audi A7 for sale

2016 BMW 535i Sedan

2016 BMW 535i Sedan – $33,985

BMW has always made some of the best sports sedans on the road, and the 5 Series is among the best of the best. It offers a great mix of size, athleticism and power. I’ve always found the 3 Series a bit too small for my needs, but I can’t see myself navigating DC streets in a big ol’ 7 Series. The 535i marries that well-sized platform with a great engine, the 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder found across the BMW lineup. In this case, it makes 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, which isn’t groundbreaking but gets the job done. This pretty white example is sitting at Germain BMW in Naples, Florida, and comes in way under our budget at just $33,985! Find a BMW 5 Series for sale

2015 Jaguar XF R

2015 Jaguar XF R – $38,990

Ever wanted a cool British sports sedan? If you have, that likely means you want a Jaguar. The XF sedan provides a great mix of luxury, style, and — if you add the “R” badge — it adds crazy power. With a 5.0-liter supercharged V8, and — get this — 510 hp, it will be an absolute beast on a long drive. This is in another power league against the Germans in this lineup, and it can all be yours for under $40,000. This cool white XF R with black wheels comes from Jaguar of Tampa and sits right at $38,990. I dig it. Find a Jaguar XF for sale

2014 Porsche Panamera 4

2014 Porsche Panamera 4 – $36,691

Personally, I really dislike the first generation Porsche Panamera. I find it’s styling ungainly and awkward, and that’s using the language I’m allowed to use here on Oversteer. Starting in 2017, the second generation was a true breakthrough. It’s a gorgeous car. However, I have to admit that even the first generation is a great driver’s car, so I couldn’t leave it off of this list. The 3.6-liter V6 produces an adequate 310 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, but the overall chassis and driving experience is the real story with the Panamera, as it does things a 5-seater shouldn’t be able to do. This one for sale in the Tyson’s Corner suburb of Northern Virginia comes CPO’d at just $36,691 with 73,850 miles. Find a Porsche Panamera for sale

2016 Mercedes-Benz CLS 400 4MATIC

2016 Mercedes-Benz CLS 400 4MATIC – $39,991

I saved Mercedes for last, since they’re known for producing crazy fast luxury sedans. Sadly, the typical AMG models that I had hoped to represent here just aren’t in the cards — if you want a CPO Mercedes under $40,000, you need to lower your sights a bit. Thankfully, you still get a ton of car for the money. Behold, the CLS 400, and she’s a beauty. The CLS also helped pioneer the 4-door coupe genre, and it’s only been perfected over time. If you can settle for a turbo 3.0-liter with 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, you can take home this black CLS from Mercedes-Benz of Springfield (this one’s in Chicopee, Massachusetts) for just $39,991. Did I mention it’s only got 23,880 miles?

So those are some of my favorite CPO luxury sedans under $40,000. As you can see, there some awesome cars on this list. If you want the German or British luxury charm without worrying about the repair costs, check out some great CPO cars right here on Autotrader. Find a Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class for sale

  1. That CLS400 is an excellent car, and lots of low-end torque with the 3.0 engine. The wheels are different though, those weren’t available on the CLS ever except as accessories and were offered as options on the 2013-14 C300 and the SL roadster. Maybe that’s an indicator that it has a separate set of wheels with winter tires?
