With downsizing, turbocharging, industry consolidation and electrification, the 10-cylinder engine is becoming rarer and rarer as the years go by. Just a decade or so ago, this unique cylinder layout was used in a number of high-performance engines. Here, we’ll highlight five V10 cars and trucks currently listed for sale on Autotrader.
1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4×4 Quad Cab
The oldest 10-cylinder vehicle on our list, the Ram heavy-duty examples of the Dodge Ram could be had with a massive 8.0-liter V10 from the 1994 through 2003 model years. At the time it debuted, it was the most powerful gas engine available in a pickup, although others would surpass it in short order. Essentially a 5.9-liter V8 with two cylinders added on, the 8.0-liter V10 made 310 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. This monochrome V10 Ram 2500 hails from the 1999 model year and is located in Chenoa, Illinois. It’s got 171,000 miles on the odometer, but the asking price of $3,295 is pretty reasonable. 2005 Ford Excursion 4WD Eddie Bauer
The Excursion was a massive SUV based on the heavy-duty Ford F-250 Super Duty platform. During its time on sale, four different engines were offered. While the 6.0-liter diesel offered from partway through the 2003 model year until 2005 remains the most desirable option today, the Excursion was offered with Ford’s long-lived 6.8-liter Triton V10 as well. In the Excursion, this engine put out 310 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. This example from the 2005 model year is located in Frederick, Maryland, with 78,000 miles on the odometer and an asking price of just under $20,000. If you’re looking for an Excursion, going the gas route can be a great way to save a few dollars, as you’ll generally pay of premium of $5,000 or more for the diesel. Find a Ford Excursion for sale
The second-gen S8 was sold from 2006 to 2008. Under the hood was a 5.2-liter V10 making 444 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. This is the same engine that came in the S6 and R8, not to mention the Lamborghini Gallardo. With this engine, the S8 did 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. Audi’s flagship full-size sedans generally come loaded with technology, and this one is no different. Features include heated front and rear seats, power retractable sun shades and a Bang & Olufsen sound system, all of which were pretty cutting-edge for 2007. Located in Lititz, Pennsylvania, it comes with under 33,000 miles on the odometer and an asking price of $23,995 Find a Audi S8 for sale
The E60 BMW M5 came out for the 2005 model year. Under the hood was a 5.0-liter V10 that BMW sourced from its Formula One racing program, and the engine wasn’t used in any other BMW product. That engine came paired with a 7-speed SMG automatic transmission, or a 6-speed manual, which was a U.S.-only option. Output was a respectable 500 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 came in 4.7 seconds, according to BMW, although a number of publications reported this figure to be closer to 4.0 seconds flat. This one is located in Durham, North Carolina, with 71,000 miles on the odometer. It comes with the 7-speed auto, hence its low asking price of just $16,500. Find a BMW M5 for sale
2007 Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI
The Touareg V10 TDI was a monster, putting out 309 hp and a whopping 553 lb-ft of torque. It offered a towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds, impressive for a midsize SUV. The Touareg V10 TDI was sold in the U.S. briefly for the 2004 model year, before emissions regulations forced it to take a year-long hiatus. It then returned for 2006 and was sold through 2008 before VW discontinued the 10-cylinder diesel in favor of the more mainstream V6 TDI. Other features available on top-spec Tourages from the era include a locking rear differential, air suspension and an on-board air-compressor. Altogether, while they’re nightmares from a reliability standpoint, the Touareg V10 TDI is quite an amazing vehicle when it’s working properly. This one’s located in Crystal, Minnesota, with 88,000 miles on the odometer. Find a Volkswagen Touareg for sale

I believe the BMW v10 was also used in the M6 in those years.
And unfortunately, they are basically impossible to own. Unless you consider rod bearings to be a normal wear item.
