Fact of the day: A certified pre-owned Hyundai Equus is probably the best used-car purchase you could possibly make. For about six reasons.

Reason No. 1: It's surprisingly cheap. While a new Equus starts at $62,500 with shipping, the average certified pre-owned 2012-2014 model is just $33,700 on Autotrader. In other words, just by opting for a model that's a couple years old, you can get half off a luxury car that still retains its current body style.

Of course, virtually any luxury sedan suffers major depreciation, largely because nobody wants to own one out of warranty -- and that brings us to reason No. 2: A certified pre-owned Equus offers an insanely good warranty. Not just slightly good, reasonably good or "walk up to strangers at the supermarket and brag about your warranty" good. I mean insanely good.

Hyundai's certified pre-owned program offers 5 years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage from the original purchase date. That means you can buy a 2014 Equus and still have 8 years left on the warranty. This is more warranty than most automakers provide for a completely new vehicle. And you've just bought a used vehicle for half off.

Reason No. 3 to consider a certified pre-owned Equus: because it's loaded with stuff. And I mean loaded with stuff. If you find an Equus Ultimate, which isn't really that much more expensive on the used market than a normal one, you will get power-operated rear footrests. A 17-speaker sound system. Ventilated rear seats. A DVD player. A cornering camera. A refrigerator. Yes, you will get a refrigerator. For around $30,000. With an 8-year warranty.

As for the other reasons why you should consider a certified pre-owned Equus, there's the fact that it wafts down the street like a swan walking along a body pillow, as well as the fact that it blends in very well, so nobody knows you're driving a car that has a refrigerator. Plus, Hyundai will come pick it up at your house, so you never have to visit the Hyundai dealer and associate with normal people who buy normal vehicles, such as the Sonata.

In other words, you should go down to your local Hyundai dealer and pick up an Equus with a certified pre-owned warranty. It seems like a far more pleasant experience than driving a Dodge Viper.
