A Look at Luxury Pickup Truck Features

Modern trucks are more than simple workhorses. While trucks available years ago were only offered with sparse interiors and few features, today’s pickups offer a wide variety of available upscale options. For shoppers who want to combine pickup utility with upscale equipment, we’ve taken a look at some of today’s luxury pickup truck features — and you might be surprised just how high-end it can get.

To start, let’s cover a few luxury items making their way through many new vehicles. One is infotainment, which is quickly becoming more and more common throughout the industry. That includes pickups, which are now commonly available with such systems. In fact, among large trucks, only the Nissan Titan doesn’t offer a modern infotainment system. Even the Titan, however, is still available with an auxiliary music connection and a navigation system.

But some trucks take infotainment to a whole new level. The Ford F-150’s MyFord Touch system, for instance, offers apps and a huge in-dash touchscreen. That’s also true of the MyLink system in GM’s Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. And while the RAM’s Uconnect system boasts Wi-Fi capabilities, you can use the Toyota Tundra’s Entune system to buy movie tickets and book restaurant reservations.

If you’re not into gadgets, modern trucks still offer a long list of high-end equipment you might enjoy. For example, several pickups — including the GMC Sierra Denali — boast heated and cooled front seats. Other models, such as the Ford F-150 Platinum, include standard backup sensors and a reversing camera. For those who tow, imagine how easy it would be to hook up a trailer when a camera is helping guide you into place.

As pickups are also increasingly used as family vehicles, manufacturers are adding a growing number of safety features. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are now commonly standard in many of today’s trucks. So are front side airbags and even side curtain airbags, which protect all occupants in a potentially dangerous side impact.

Some of today’s most advanced safety technology is also reaching pickups. Examples include forward collision alert systems, which alert drivers to an impending impact, and lane departure warning systems, which send a chime or vibrate the driver’s seat if the truck starts to drift from its lane.

But pickup luxury features aren’t all about gadgets, comfort or safety. Some items are just plain cool.

Take, for instance, the embroidered leather in the RAM Laramie Longhorn that’s intended to evoke an authentic saddlebag. The Laramie Longhorn’s gauge cluster is also pretty cool, as it uses silver dials to give the appearance of handmade jewelry.

We also think you’ll find that modern luxury trucks make good use of exterior chrome. For those into big trucks and SUVs, it’s hard not to find the huge chrome grille and wheels of a GMC Sierra Denali to be pretty cool. And we think the F-150 Platinum’s power running boards are a neat feature, too.

So if you’re looking for a luxury pickup truck, you won’t have to search very far. There are now dozens of features available that have transformed these formerly bare-bones, utilitarian workhorses into a new breed of luxury vehicle.
