- White exterior color scheme with red accents
- 18-inch split 5-spoke wheels
- Red interior accents
Kia announced a special, limited-edition version of its completely redesigned Soul that brings sporty appearance upgrades to the compact hatchback. The 2014 Kia Soul Red Zone features a white exterior color scheme with red accents, a body kit, 18-in wheels and red interior accents. Priced at $23,200, the Soul Red Zone is based on the Soul Plus, the model’s mid-range trim.
The new Soul is longer and wider than its predecessor, which improves the passenger and cargo space in comparison to the first generation of the boxy 5-door. Kia offers three trim levels: base, Soul Plus and Soul Exclaim. While the base model is powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder and available with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, the Plus and Exclaim use a more powerful 2.0-liter engine and come standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2014 Kia Soul Red Zone is the first special edition for the second-generation Soul. For a sportier exterior look inspired by Kia’s Track’ster concept, the Red Zone includes a body kit finished in white and accented in red, a red grille insert and a rear spoiler. Its special 18-in wheels are a 5-spoke design with split spokes. The Red Zone Soul also includes projector beam headlights, LED front positioning lights and LED taillights.
Inside, the special edition uses contrasting red stitching for the black cloth seats, the leather-wrapped steering wheel and the dash. Red trim pieces throughout the interior continue the theme. Special floor mats include red piping, and sport pedals round out the interior upgrades.
Compared with the most affordable 2014 Kia Soul Plus, the Red Zone carries a significant $5,000 premium. For the same money, Kia Soul Plus buyers could instead choose three available options packages: Audio, Primo and UVO eServices. Together, those bring luxury-grade features such as navigation, heated first- and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel and a panoramic roof. These packages may be the wiser buy for Soul shoppers searching for a richly equipped model.
What it means to you: If sporty exclusivity is most important, the Red Zone is a good choice. Kia will produce only 2,000 units, making the special edition relatively rare. Expect the Red Zone to arrive in dealers’ showrooms early next year. For shoppers that can’t wait, the more mainstream 2014 Kia Soul is already available.
